Hmmm ....not really sure whether to post this here or in sports .... here I think, as it's more a technical question.
Apparently it's been 'discovered' that the success of the CBR600RR in WSS comes down to an electrically operated pump, which (if I understand it right) sucks air out of the sump, thereby creating a slight vacuum. This is the pump, apparently it's readily available in the UK.
If proven, could it mean the immediate disqualification of the Ten Kate team from WSS?

My question is: how would a 'slight vacuum' in the sump generate the extra power? I can understand on explosion phase, as the piston would go down that little bit easier but surely the opposite would happen during compression :confused1:
Anyone? :confused1:

A quick google on "negative crankcase pressure" and a bit of cut and paste.....
Using a vaccum pump to create higher than normal cranckcase vacuum to seal the rings better and give better performance, the negative pressure also allows for less oil pressure but high volume, which helps reduce temps, which is a good thing.
Can't believe TK did this (or managed to get away with it if its illegal... but could be a bit of a blow if they do get pinged !!!!

I think RIPPERTON would have used it on his bike if it worked!!!!
Maybe he has and just had not told any of us

In most internal combustion engines, it is best to maintain pressure within the engine crankcase below atmospheric pressure thereby reducing leaks through gaskets and seals from the crankcase to the atmosphere. And so as not to rob any horsepower driving the unnecessary air pump created by piston movement. You do not want the crankcase vacuum to be excessive, which would cause out side air and debris to be pulled through any worn crankcase seals or gaskets. The NAG Crankcase Pressure Relief Valves maintain a slight crankcase vacuum and maintain a negative vacuum at any engine speed or load.
The addition of a Blow off valve will eliminate the slight leanness created with the pressure increase in the air box while under braking. This device will blow off the excess pressure.

Ahhhh!! flux capasitator. Just what the Dr ordered. Next time I'm highsiding I'll say "beam me up Scotty" and avoid a lot of unpleasantness. A much needed improvment to track days. lol

ooh this sounds interesting.......wonder how long its been used if it has indeed been used ? This could be a long drawn out issue i think ... good find :)
It doesn't explain why they have 10 blokes on their team all named Kate. Grounds for suspicion alright.

It looks like the little primer you see on lawnmowers & other little motors.
But jeez if it reduces oil pressure & whatnot, then its a dam nifty device!
I hope they dont get into trouble for it .. how much does the device weigh all up?

If this was part of the stock standard road bike it would be fine correct?
It probably a bad thing for Honda in racing terms if it get done for it but good for the next CBR as i would guess it would be a stock part.
Then of course other teams will follow...
