I'll probably also be at the May race school with this mob. Since Eastern Creek Ride days jacked up their prices to 200 bucks a go, I figure all of my eastern creek track days might as well be a circuit breakers race school. For 80 bucks more you get longer sessions and some decent tips on getting around the track (hopefully).

:) the RATs are just the best at getting the right price.. put it this way, I not only had to pay $280 for the day but they added a hidden 3% fee on top for the VISA card... I think that was a fee for not being a RAT :)
Great stuff Striker, I signed up for B group too, I hear they end up shuffling you anway if your not suited to that group.
Excellent Shane, I'll bring up the books and DVD :)

The RATS price is fine. It's the ones in between the RATS ones where I get stung.

Eastern Creek general map - 64kb
I opened them once and had a quick look, but didn't save them. I haven't been able to open them since.

how did you go? What bike were you on? I had a great day. Mainly because I rode from start to finish (a rare occurrence for me with my crash rate).

Jason Mate, did you get My PM?
jasonbw

Sorry shane, I left at 6:00am without checking for the PM.. mobile is 0432 867 460 but its too late for this time, I'll post you the DVD and books you were after.. will PM you later.
Striker, sorry I didnt catch up with you, I'll organise a way to meet up next time better, how did you go??? I was on a Red CBR1000RR in B group.
But it was a great day hey, sadly one of my mates came off his ZX6 on turn 3 near the end of the day, he said it was fatigue poor bugger... on the cool down lap.. all too easy! but not too much damage - low sided - his leathers were wrecked (burst seams and torn bits off it - cheap leathers.. not good)
I had gone in the day before to pick up the new set of PP 2ct's but they had gotten delivered the wrong size (not their fault), but I still had my PP but they had done way too many miles esp with bad shock and fork setup so they were nackered, made for an interesting day.. 3 huge rear slides that scared the shit outta me and I wasnt being greedy on the throttle!!
So for the first time round the creek (apart from the superbike schools) I was happy with my times considering, my mate got a 1:58:89 on his Z1000 having knocked 7 seconds off his time over the course of the day, I got a 1:54:510 having knocked 2 seconds over the day, my other two mates were around 2:07 through to 2:21 but both worked well to get around 10 seconds off their times! not bad at all.
I can do a write up on the difference between Superbike Schools and this Race school if anyones interested, theres a HUGE difference, plus points on both but it might help in case youre considering one or the other for a certain purpose.
That was fun.... didnt see Jai... I saw his times... freaking awesome! I'm keen to try warmers and slicks now but my bank isnt :-)

good one mate. sounds like ya had a great day...
ive done both as well, and being a trackday junkie now i preferred the race school. also the price difference and timing helped to sway me as well!!:D
warmers and slicks give ya so much confidence its scary sometimes!!!

I totally agree.. Superbike school was great in learning how to be smooth, fantastic one on one stuff, but race school was all about lapping fast and using the 'race' lines (defensive and aggressive)... will have to try slicks and warmers.
Jas,
I would like to take you up on your offer on a write up between the Superbike School & Race School.
I only just started doing track days on the Z1000 with the RATS and I am doing the Race School with the guys on 10th May. A number of my mates reckon that Superbike school level 1 would be better (even thought they haven't done one), Opinion based on comments from other riders. Nothing like 2nd & 3rd hand comments.
Looking forward to Race School in May but also will probably do a Superbike School if feedback is good.
Cheers

Sure...
Have you read Keith Code's bibles? Twist of the wrist 1 & 2, plus Soft Science of Roadracing technology? please buy them from www.superbikeschool.com.au or grab a copy from your library or if your PDF download inclined then let me know as they're out there.
I'll do the write up now and will post it up shortly... will edit here with the link when done.
P.s. on the Z1000 how'd you find your stock gearing when going up the hill out of turn 2 into turn 3? Did you have any gear selection problems when going down the straight?

Hey Jason, sorry we didnt get to meet up, we probably saw each other without knowing it.. 1:54 is pretty bloody good for your first few times at the track in street trim. Im sure you'd be into the 40's after a few more visits, might even see you out there on the grid oneday ;)
Cheers Jai :)

Thanks Jai, we did, I walked through the first garage (the one with the water in it) and I'm sure I saw 88 and you setting it up with warmers... and thought "88, oh shit thats Jai isnt it" but figured I'm too dumb to remember the number off your avatar... wish I hadnt doubted myself.
Other than that you were probably that blur I remember going past me in turn 1, then a lap later, turn 2, and a lap later turn 3... and so on :)
Jas,
Looking forward to your write up.
Re gearing on the Z1000....
First time at the creek last month so I struggled a little with what gear to be in in the corners. Was taking turn 2 in 2nd and running turn 3 in the same gear and changed up to 3rd for turn 4. It revved high but didn't redline. Probably more to do with my speed (or lack thereof)
I recently had an Akropovic 4 into 1 & power commander fitted and increased the HP and has also made the power delivery heaps more linear.
Tried to follow Vinnie on one session to learn the lines but he was too fast
for me.
Will definitely get the suggested reading material.
Cheers
Bart
