:welcome: turtle, hope ya have fun here mate, to find out info on doing trackdays, theres a section in the main page that explains the ins and outs, but bassicly, for your first ever track day, i personally would start off in the lowest grade, and if ya find yourself overtaking heaps, ya can always ask the organisers if they can slide you up a spot, but it's mostly about getting out there and having fun.

oh yeah, they are addicitive:ayyy:

At EC they take all newbies around for two laps first thing in the morning :ayyy: .

I remember my first time (only done 2 ever!). The Superbike school dude said, "we'll do 2 laps; the first will be at 50%, then the 2nd at 75%, then you guys go for it..."

I got nervous at first, and I followed in one line, as you're supposed to do. I was 3 bikes back from him. I found the 50% lap was easy, and then got ready for the 75% lap... it was pretty easy too, until turn 7 when he low-sided!!! :eyecrazy:

He just stood up and waved us on, but the bunch of us (about 12 of us) just kept going slow for another couple of laps as we were scared crapless after HE came off!!!

He later said his front brake locked in the ON position and blamed the old Triumph. That was just before the 600's were replaced by the new Gixxers.

Anyway, B1 sounds good. If it's too fast for you (which I doubt), they'll just ask you to go down a group or you can get yourself down a group by talking to the officials. :ayyy:

Not sure. He was introduced as "this guy works for us and is also one of the instructors with the Calif. Superbike School." He was a taller lanky bloke and always had a smile on his face. He was quietly spoken. Nice bloke.

IMHO, if you've never been on the track then I would give B2 a go first. You are there to learn the track first and then get progressively faster. Besides, if you are quicker than others in your group, you can always practice passing techniques.

There is only one thing worse than being held up if you too fast for the group your in. The golden rule rule at trackdays should be...... try to be in the right group so you don`t hold too many riders up.
Its not uncommon to ride in A group and hose someone through a turn who simply shouldn`t be in A group.
Conversely, you can get munched by someone in B group who really should be in A group.
B2 is a good starting place for the first trackday, just so as you can site the track but there is absolutely nothing wrong with going in B first up if your fast and confident enough.

Most guys who haven't been to a trackday believe they are quick!

Until they place themselves in one of the fast groups at a trackday, they'll be cranked over in a turn and think they're flying only to have 1 guy pass them on the inside, another on the outside then as they straighten up out of the corner 2 or 3 more will shoot past.

Start in one of the 2 slower groups and then move up when you are comfortable with the track. There will be no problem getting moved up if you are blitzing everyone.

You may have no problems at all and be in A grade by the 2nd or 3rd session, but most find the track a bit daunting the first time out.

Good Luck:ninja:

Im of the opinion that if you havent ridden the track before or it has been a long time since you should start in a lower grade & then come up after a session or 2. There is no shame in starting off in D, C, B grade as we all started somewhere.
For me I've booked into B for Eastern Creek as I havent been there for at least 5 years on a 400. I normally ride A group at Oran Park but hey it will be fun learning the track again before going up & chasing down the Bigdogs :lmao: :lmao: :lmao: :mod_smilie_rockwoot

I've got to agree with the others. You'll be pretty suprised by the ability of some of the riders out there. Having been in these situations before, it is a lot better to be in a group that you are a bit quicker than, rather than being in a group where everyone else is carving you up everywhere.

Also if you do end up in a position where you are being constantly overtaken it starts to affect your confidence and you end up going even slower than what you are capable of which compounds the problem.

No-one can possibly pass judgement on your ability unless they have ridden with you, but one thing is certain. For your first time at the track you will do much better to underestimate what you believe you're capable of until you know for sure.

:stupid: 's, i think i did about 5 trackdays in D then C grade at E.C and then jump up into B1, where i prob did about another 5or6 days, and i've only just jumped up into A grade, so i agree with what everyones else has suggested, underestimation for a track i reckon is better then over estimimation, and if you are quick enough to go blitzing past everyone in the lower grade, it will actually help your confidence levels heaps, which will make it easier the next trackday you do in the higher grade, because in my opinion, confidence is a vital part of riding fast at a track, but over confidence can be a short cut to a bike repair bill.

just my 2cents:ayyy:

That's still one second per turn slower than what the Super Stock boys are griding up for. I think I'm capable of going under 1.50's, so hopefully this next upcoming race school will help. Found myself not being able to let go of the bars at the last trackday....it a sign of information overload.
