im using dunlop slix on the trakkky at the moment, and have some bridgeys to that ill use next, couple the other guys are using pirelli slix. they are all fairly similiar. even for the road i think most of the road and track tyres are similiar, pilot powers, diablos....

i have black rubber which is round..

sorry
i actually use bridgestones on my gpx250, mainly because they are the only ones which fit and go good.
never had an issue with them they never feel slippery even in the rain.

If your just going to take it easy on the road I`d go with Jace`s suggestion.
M1`s from Actions for $350.00
Ive ridden with them on the road and done a tame trackday on them. For $350.00 they are good value.
If you want the best road tyre (at least the best for lonjevity) and be able to do aggressive trackdays, you won`t beat Pilot Powers, awesome in the wet too. Supa Corsa Pros if you don`t mind spending money, awesome tyre but they don`t last long.
If you want a dedicated trackday tyre.......pick a slick, you won`t go wrong.

I used Pilot Powers on the road and thought they were awesome. These days, if I was to buy another set of road tyres it would be Metzeler M3's. I haven't used them but from all accounts they are supposed to be excellent tyres.

Diablo Super Corsa, great tyre short life Dunlop 209 aswsome tyre slightly longer life than super corsa and i do miss the pilot race used to get great life and grip out of them or pilot powers will do

Had Bridgies 014 front and 020 rear. They lasted a long time!
Recently Shinkos. Cheap and very sticky, but more a drag tyre than a track tyre. Great for the road.

Now Diablo. Nothing special, but does the job okay!

I've never used the Pilot Powers and I was going to get them this time but my mechanic (steve from Maxpower) recommended the M3's and they are great, good grip and no scary moments yet

in the last year i have used dunlop qualifier, michelin pilot power, bridgestone 002 on the road and track, and i just picked up a set of brand new medium power race tyres which i have used before for 300 big ones the set. (the guy just started racing and has to wear pirellis now.

For how fast i am going they are all awesome... surprisingly the ones i think wore the quickest were the qualifiers... but i did a fair bit of road riding in tassie on em and the roads down there are pretty sharp.

i would 100% reccomend any of these tyres... so just get the ones you get the best deal on.

... i didn't particularly like bridgestone bt014s but they werent crap. just seemed to go off quicker.

I use Racetecs at the moment k1 front and k2 rear, before that i had 2 sets of Super Corsa's which i really cant fault. The rear Racetec is a great tyre as good as the supercorsa but is lasting longer (i get about 3000k's out of the supercorsa's) but i think the New racetec front i put on yesterday dosen't have the feel that the Supercorsa does. Before that i had the Diablo corsa'a great tyre for grip but not a great fast cornering tyre and only good for about 3500k's. Pilot Powers i don't like, they slide too much when pushed hard especially the front.:)

i gotta say that's a weird statment mate, when i had my tlr, i was running round e.c doing 2 mins flat with em (wet and dry road) got a blow out on the rear and was still overtaking people, the front was sliding abit, but that was due to the rear having no pressure.

on my gixer, i was running 1:55's on em, and still no movement, except for turn 1 at e.c taking it at about 180kmph.

buy i geuss it all comes down to personal opinion and feel

you've also gotta look at his riding style, and the bikes he was on, SP1 and VTR are both V-TWINS, therefor for him to lowside he must have had the bike cranked right over and just giving it that bit to much throttle, which is still weird cause normally the twins are know for highsiding people

Here is a front PP that was pushed hard. I was doing 1:50`s at the Creek on this tyre and it did not slide at bit.

Are you keen on those Moss DVDs? (see tech thread)

Zee

I reckon it's the controller that influences a tyres reaction, at my level anyway.
Chop the throttle mid turn cranked over and you'll lose the front end. At the other end of the scale, smash the throttle coming out of a turn and you'll see sky - ground - sky - ground.
Setting up the springs for your weight will correspond to tyre wear rate.

Only problem I had with Pilot Powers at the track was when the rear end tried to swap itself with the front on turn 7 at EC. No warning what-so-ever. The front end was rock solid though and I suppose it was more me using too much throttle mid corner.
As a road tyre they are great and if you are getting them to slide, it's time to start doing trackdays.

I felt it slide pretty good there last time, haha!
But that was coming into the corner at the apex. Don't usually feel anything there..
I almost always get a slide going on the way out up the hill though. Are you guys talking about sliding up the hill on the way up to 8 or at the apex of 7?

Kat00

I recently went from BT014 (stock K6 1K Tyres) to Pilot powers.

BT014's would have to be the worst tyre for the bike, I had the rear squirming all over the place, while fun, it was also gay. No confidence in the front, turned in OK, not slow, not fast, more slow. Front tyre has the worst feeling, like its on ice and doesnt give feedback through the bars (maybe good for commuters/tourers?)

I had the front tyre squealing doing an OR to wisemans run! The front tyre slid when cold at the end of my street at 30klm!
Note: At this point, I regretted buying a liter bike.

Spoke to a mate, told him I think they are shit, he confirmed and said the way I ride, I will ball them up but they will just let go in a big way without warning and low side. Thanks for telling me earlier :cursing:

I rate these as a pure commuter, forget what BS say about them! Crap!

1 week later, booked in with spm for pilot powers for $450 fitted http://www.spmotorcycles.com.au/

They scratched my rims trying to remove the stock weights but negotiated a compo of $50 ($400 all up for PP's). If you have the press on weights, I strongly suggest you get them to balance it with stock weights! By far the cheapest price on PP's I can find!!

I scrubbed these in the wet- not fun! Went up OR to finish them off, on the way back home, tipped in and found the water patch just after PITS, picked it up but still going about 110klm and not even a squirm! I heard some guy in the states went to spin them up in the wet and got a wheelie instead! I would believe that!

If you have the money, actually if you commute find the money to afford these. In the 2 weeks I have had them, I have given them a fairly hard time and I can see how guys are getting 11,000 klm + commuting on them!

I was going to get racetech's (About $550 fitted) or BT002's (about $475 fitted from whitey) but was warned about cold tearing on the rear but a couple of mates and some dudes on a forum. I sort of regret it but if I went straight to track tyres I wouldnt have ever looked at road tyres and would be fucked if stuck in the rain...

Last saturday, I was riding (read: way behind) with one of my quicker mates and he was amazed on my improvments, turned around and said he was riding at about 65% (I was at 100% concentration but only at 80% speed due to sickness) and expected to have to pull over to wait (like usual) but was there behind him on the slow straights (Old road). He said at the speeds im starting to get to, I should be thinking about the racetech's :wtf1: where 2weeks before that, he said I should go for PP's or Diablo Corsa 3's:BangHead: Sometimes your mates even give you the bump steer... But I can see from his point its not becuase I can use all of the pilot powers grip, let alone racetech's but from a saftey point of view if I have to make an aggressive line correction they will give me the extra margin/grip to perform it with confidence.

Pilot Powers i don't like, they slide too much when pushed hard especially the front.:)

This is really interesting, im a bit of a noob and found that the fronts were worked quite hard even on scrub in. It was starting to ball up! But felt funny in the front. Spoke to a few people, they said they didnt ball up even on the track:wtf1: then spoke to some mates and they said "dont be an idiot, of course they will, even shit tyres do!"

I measured my old tyres and reset my heights- it made a massive diff on my bike/riding style. The squirm I was getting is now gone! I also found that my rebound was a touch hard for the street (I had some rebound tearing according to this http://www.crstuning.com/tire-wear.html)

Kat00- Your pic's reinstate that when ridden properly the front has loads of grip, but I think I will change to semi slicks start to get quick.

I only had one wiggle from the rear- just making sure the 15W oil in my damper was working properly ;-)

99% sure its the rear.. nearly every time Dave Moss was referring to the tyre wear he was showing us the rear wheel.
Turtle, just remember to aim for 5 psi gain and your good as you have your static sag done (and dont gas it hard if you find your in too slow - wait till next lap to fix the problem!)

So if i begin with say 29psi , then once the tyre has heated up i should have 34psi ??? And if the pressure is higher than 34 then i have too much ??? :confused1: Is that right ??

i run, bridgstone slicks. i seem to have a good relationship with bridgestone, i run special release tyres for fellas in the JSB series, and get chucked take offs from the all japan championship every once in a while. they tell me they are 1000$ for a rear!! damn good tyres!!! im not really making the most of them however...:(

in superstock classes i run BS002s they just released a new front, that has stronger sidewalls and can handle higher entrance speeds. its good, for you guys running dot tyres check it out!!

these get chucked on my street bike when im finnished with em on the track!!

bridgestones are the tyres of choice over here, and they have free track days every month as well!!! cant complain about that!!
