Has anyone bought or can suggest where to get custom leathers or even give me reason why not to bother . I have been using 2 peice suit but would like to get a 1 peice and was thinking the fit of a custom could be much better than one off the rack .

Gimoto do them I believe, good but pricey is the word on the street.. I've not had experience with them though..
I've owned a couple of one pieces and they mould to your body shape fairly quick, and more than good enough. I'd only go with a custom pair if I was loaded.. which sadly I am not.

Cool , thanks . Have sent through a request for a price from GiMoto for one of the custom suits , will update when I hear from them . Would love to have one in the colours I would like but not if the price is over the top .

Gimoto are good, I have heard nothing but praise for their suits. I even met a racer at EC who took a nasty tumble in his, and he was also very happy with how they stacked up.
They're not badly priced, given it's custom-made, and made in italy (or so I'm led to believe).
Another manufacturer is Tiger Angel, they were big a few years back, but I don't see much of their stuff around any more.
Gotta tell ya though, I'm just as happy with my Berik 1-piece, the fit is great and the quality is too ... at half the price.

Mine are Tiger Angel, they have a web site and you can order them on line. My wife and I measured me up and they fit really well. Would recommend them.

the web link is http://www.tigerangel.com.au/ :)
there based in Melb so even with measured custom fit things aren't always 100% the way you think they will be which makes using then a good option as to do adjustments if needed is a very quick turn around.
I have allot of friends with there leathers & everyone of them is happy with them & so long as you don't crash to much they last for a very long time which is testament to the stitching & layer design because in a crash it is normally the stitching that rips apart not the leather.

I haven't gone asphalt surfing yet but they look like they’d be very tough. Be careful when you use Tiger Angels measuring tips; make sure you read the explanation carefully. I tried on lots of off the shelf leathers and they all didn't fit in some area or another. Maybe just an odd shape, off the shelf gear must fit some guys perfectly. The one thing that I wanted that Tiger Angel do, is a leather crutch. Some manufactures use that stretchy material and you slide all over the place. I prefer the leather in the crotch so that you're more stabile when hanging off it.

Theres a mob in sydney called Laro leathers, you dont see to many of them around though. I knew a guy who had a set and has taken a few spills in them without any real damage to him, havent seen the suit in a while though so I cant comment on how it came out.

Cheers , I checked Laro website , doesn't seem they do a 1 piece suit at all anymore .

Further to the question has anyone got any opinions or Cow v's Roo ?

Roo is better because it's just as strong whilst being lighter (thinner). But it costs significantly more. I don't know how it fares re cleaning etc, I'd expect it to be similar.

25% more for a GiMoto suit . TigerAngel don't do Roo though .

Why is it that Italian suit manufacturers offer roo sourced from Australia but Australian manufacturers don't?

Got me , I too would have thought they would have had it for sure . Wanted to go the Oz manufacturer if I do end up getting one but also wanted to get Roo , will have to re think it all . Weighing up the weight difference and comfort v's the cost and not buying Oz .

This is off topic, but personally i don't go for the "buy Australian" thing, I will buy whatever is better and better value, regardless of where it's made.
My opinion is that IF/when inefficient industries dissapear, we move to industries that are more productive and profitable. It happened in the 80's when we got rid of most of our textile manufacturers (which, contrary to union predictions, didn't lead to doom) and a few years later we already had almost full employment.
It's even worse for subsidised industries (eg motor vehicles) which cost us more (taxes and higher purchase cost).
So I wouldn't worry about it.

When i spoke to the guys at Tiger Angel he told me that alltough roo is lighter, which is why the world championship racers use it, it doesn't resist heat as well. That's somethink you should think about too. I came off once and got a nast burn through my old leathers, the burn was just in a tiny spot but it went really deep. My arm turned black a week later. The leathers didn't tear, just didn't have any heat resistance.

Staying off topic captain, it's not always about inefficient industries, for example in manufacturing and agriculture there rarely is there a level playing field, between subsidies and tariffs, that other governments put on their industries, this undermines the profitablity of australian companies (our government doesn't care). Without mining this country would be third world
Oh, and BOT, If you can fit into a off the rack suit, go for it, if you need custom sizing, go the tiger angels

off the rack for Alpine between $1600 and $2800 and Berik around $1600 for the race suit i think I would rather get custom for $2000 . i could be wrong on those prices but I feel I am sort of in between sizes and the custom should obviously fit better .

I'm seriously thinking of custom too. Always had a problem with anything off the rack. Suits for work I can only buy brands off the rack that allow mixing and matching of jacket and pants sizes otherwise right pants means jacket too tight and right jacket means pants too baggy. Same with my current A* suit, tight up to the limit of comfort up top but baggy arsed (maybe I should be doing mega squats with weights in the gym or perhaps only eating Maccas or something:n: lol). I would be interested to hear how you go.
