I have been thinking about doing up a project bike. Would like to do a '76 model to have a bike the same age as myself (though not particular about that). Been looking at a Honda CB750F1, Ducati 350GTL and a Moto Guzzi 850T3. Was wondering what your experiences are with doing up an old bikes? Have been thinking that if it's to rare getting parts will be an issue? I would like to buy a clunker not going and give it a total overhaul.

Go the CB750. Parts are easy to find and if you do it rite you'll have a bike thats wouth more than it cost to build. The K0 & K1 models bring some good coin & are more sort after than the later models.

like all project bikes and cars buy something in good condition to begin with , you then have all parts and a good base

as finding the odd bits and pieces becomes difficult and expensive

its going to come down to what you want , 4 cyl or twin

old bikes have cult followings and once you start with the forums etc you will find out where to get the parts you need

The only thing good about project bikes is, your not forking out all that money on a peice of shit in one hit, cause by the time youve finished and look at whats spent, youll be thinking wtf did I do, I couldve bought three of :lmao:

I here you. I just want a classic bike, as i remember them, growing up with as a kid. Something i can take the misses out on, with out scaring the crap out of her (as the Duc does). Looking at a resonable build time 3-5 years no massive rush.

3-5 yrs. your duc will be needing a full rebuild. start with that

Are you interested in the old Kawasaki Zs? A mate will be selling his Z750 soon, and it meets the 'clunker not going' criteria :lmao:

Do what I done, get one for free! Mind you its only a Z250 single, but it was great to start learning how to build bikes.

Hahaha, wade, it has them now mate. That picture was just after I got the new tyres on it. Seat needs trimming yet and new pipe has to go on.

How much do you think you have spent? What was the dearest bit?

So far the most expensive bit has been the new tyres, but thats for both. The bike was actually a running bike when I got it. The one most expensive part was the new for leg inners, the old ones where just to pitted. Total cost of the build so far is just on $1100.00, and thats no joke, just about everything has been done by me in my garage.
