View Full Version : Annual Slick Costs
I am wondering if I could borrow a cup of existing knowledge re current slick tyre wear rates.
If, for example, this old lunatic :crazysmiley: hammers a CBR or R1 on 10 trackies pa how many slicks would I expect to burn up?
I'm just looking for a guesstimate given the variables.
I guess $300 per tyre is reasonable? holyshit
Cheers

Not sure the old fella has been to EC yet :confused1:
So dad.
10 TDs per year. Depending on track temps & how hard you push it of course. I spose you could expect 3 TDs out of a medium compound set of slicks.
Naturally this will depend on numerous variables. Susp set up, heat, lap times etc.

Thanks Lads,
I'm just trying to roughly estimate how much milk money and SKI I have to pinch pa.
Had more than a few days at EC but bugger all in the last few years.
About set a meeting (warmer months) was normal then. Having a bit of fun is more important (and safer) now than trying to mix it with some of the times I've heard about :dropjaw:
I would avoid TD's in the heat of summer, simply because it's too bloody hot
I need to get to a RATs show and talk to you guys.
Looking at a race R1 and 2 CBR's this week then the questions will rooley fly :coffeesmiley:
Doing a ride day PI in 3 weeks - which is one off the Bucket List :)
It will also be good to decide if getting into full-on race stuff or just Track daze makes sense.
Cheers

Running the Dunlop GP Racer ($450 set from CHM), you should get up to 10 days out of 1 front and 2 rears on a 1000. That's a soft front and hard rear, the usual combo.

do you run them to the canvas???
all depends how fast and SMOOTH you are. fast in and smooth out of a cnr will see better wear than slow in and trying to make it up on the gas out of the cnr.

It depends how fast you are and also riding style
When i was at EC with a mate racing in Super stock they were complaining about lack of grip after 3 sessions, low 1-40s
On the same tyre i got 6 track days :ayyy:

I use a set of slicks over 2 or 3 days... depends how hard I ride... usually 6 to 700 for Pirelli slicks...

I'm clearly very slow. And I haven't yet used a set up on the 1000. I guess I'm saying what I got for the 600.

I only get two out of pirellis at best...Whitey usually has some good prices on the pirellis, and bridgies if your into that kinda thing -the racetech sbk slicks are 488 a set but have never tried the slicks

I'll have to check what I'm using on my bike (600cc) I put it on new for the 1 hour at Wakefield then did the whole season last year on it :mod_smilie_rockwoot
I'm not as fast as some of you guys but I did finish 2nd in the championship (PCRA NE2) and my best time around EC was a 1:48
I ride slow, and have done 6 TD's on my GP Racer front, they are JUST about due for replacement...The rear is still going strong
