Need to get my bike fixed up and hoping to get some suggestions on which way to go and who to contact to get this done as I have no idea.

Will need to weigh up the cost of new parts vs repairing existing parts.

Damage to Bike....

Dents in Steel Tank. Can these be beated out and filled.

Hole in Rear ducktail. Can this be plastic welded.

Scrap marks on front fairing & light glass... plastic weld the fairing?

Handle Bar bent. Looking at getting a set of Renthal or similar.

Clutch Lever Ground at end. Looking at a set of CRG levers.

Front Screen. I still have orginal but looking to get another MRA Screen.

Rizoma Crash Pucks for Engine case..... this one done its job.

Replacement L/H peg for the Gillies Rearsets. I can still use the existing one as it broke off at the bolt but it has grind marks on it where it slid along the track.

Any suggestions on who to contact for repairs and/or suppliers for new parts would be greatly appreciated.

As I have about 3-4 months before I get back on the bike, shipping time is not a problem.

Cheers

I SHOULD START BY SAYING I REALLY DON'T KNOW THAT MUCH ABOUT REPAIRS... BUT A FEW QUESTIONS TO START WITH...

HOW WELL DO YOU WANT TO REPAIR IT? BACK TO MINT CONDITION OR JUST ROADWORTHY?

DENT-BUSTERS DO THAT SORT IF THING BUT TANKS ARE NORMALLY MUCH THICKER THAN CAR PANELS, SO THEY MAY BE RELECTANT/UNABLE TO DO IT.

Hole in Rear ducktail. Can this be plastic welded.
MAYBE FIBREGLASS FROM THE INSIDE BUT TO PLASTIC WELD I THINK YOU NEED THE MISSING BIT.

Scrap marks on front fairing & light glass... plastic weld the fairing?
REPLACE LENS. SAND AND PAINT FAIRING?

Handle Bar bent. Looking at getting a set of Renthal or similar.
:ayyy:

Clutch Lever Ground at end. Looking at a set of CRG levers.
:ayyy:

Front Screen. I still have orginal but looking to get another MRA Screen.

I USUALLY CALL UP METROPOLITAN SPARES AT SILVERWATER AND WRITE DOWN WHAT THEY QUOTE ME, THEN SHOP AROUND... MAYBE EVEN TRY EBAY...:confused1:

As I have about 3-4 months before I get back on the bike, shipping time is not a problem.

Cheers

from memory the scratches were pretty deep... may need small amount of bog to fill them in... thats what we are doing with some scratches we can sand out on dungys road bike... cant even tell now as the layer of bog is so thin.. :D

Kell,

Many thanks for the info.

I have listed with findapart and have found a tank in Melbourne which has a dent in it also but no other parts at this time.

The other option I am looking at is to speak with guys like extreme creations and look at changing some things on the bike..... street fighter like. nothing too radical though.

Your tank's repairable
I seen much worse than that.
They fix it by spot welding a rod to the dent and than slide hammer it out.
Bit of niki, rub back and paint, you'll never tell it was there. Of course if the repairer is any good.
The rest of the stuff buy new and check out what it worth from the states.

Ah man shame about the bike(i must have missed a thread somewhere) but the easiest way to fix it would be to use duck tape.

I would do the following;
1. take bike apart & remove every part you wish to replace or fix
2. decide on boby parts etc you want to replace what you have removed, take tank to repair shop for inspection then you know if repairable (crows custom paint etc)
3. buy body parts first because your looking at 4-6 weeks painting time at the rate most shops work
4. buy other parts so when body work painted all can be put togrther at one time
5. have all parts, bolt bike back togther

If you need a hand to strip bike then ask & when you have bits to fix we can bolt it all back together, you might need some clips or a bkt so always you should strip bike before anything else.

How much is it to do that slide hammer and re-painting thing?

Zee
13-05-2007, 08:16 PM
Could be anything upto $300

kellz

new tank is around 780 US so $300 would be a good price...

does daytona do that????or do they only do paint work???

I like the idea of repairing my tank if I can........who can I go to to see if they can repair this?

Findaparts quoted a price of $250 for the tank in Melbourne.

I can get the spray job done via a mate. He does up cars for Summernats and is very good at it.

$44 will get ya new engine cover or for 2 quid will get a KAWASAKI RANGE BROCHURE 2005 ZX,6R, ZX10R, ZX12R, Z1000 from the UK. Thats all thats listed on ebay. F%@K i thought there would be a fair bit more there. If only you had a gixxer. Theres heaps of parts there for them.
I would try and repair tank and the body work i could see getting fixed up. Plastic weld the fairing and Fibra glass that up and maybe bog for the rear and F/G the rear too.
If you can fix the panel etc ya self your mate can paint the bike. Maybe under 500 could do it all if you can do the repairs ya self bar the tank.

dilbee there is heaps of gixxer stuff cause they crash alot... us kwakka stay upright longer.. lol

dont think he needs a new engine casing as he had the pucks on which took the full force of the hit in that area...

yeah i was just posting up what was on ebay. Not good for his bike.
Theres a guy who goes around and pop out dints on tanks and ill go down to westerns and see if i can get his number, but looking at that dent its one i think he cant fix. Wait and see.

thats ok. But im thinking with that dent it will have to have a slide hammer on it. But doesn't hurt asking him and see what he can do. I know he did come into the shop once and fixed a dent on a bike by sticking somerthing through the petrol hole.

The mobile vans that fix cars.. touch up whatever... you know, paint chips, small dents... they might be worth calling to see if they'd drop by next time they're in the area for a guess at the price... a lot of them are trained in removing dents without drilling.

Dilbee,

Had no luck with the Ezy Dent guy. He basically said that the tanks are a lot thicker and with the limited access to get to them, it's not a job he would be interested in.

But thanks anyway.

Yeah kinda built like a TANK ... :)

Hey shoot this guy an email from Dungy USA parts place.. joe browning [joseph@sumofallparts.net], he might have a good price with shipping for a 2nd hand one...

How are your wheels? Fine ??

Ouch....

I just bought a front wheel for my CBR1000RR today from the US.. only $50 shipping.. sure I have to wait for weeks but it beats paying $600 for one here.

Might be worth checking out eBay.

Mate,

I am still waiting on the frame sliders I ordered from the states back in mid April.

It seems that the delivery was lost and they have had to despatch another set.

Wheels are untouched.

I'm dropping out to Extreme Creations next week to get an idea on what can be done on the Z. After market parts seem to be cheaper that OEM's.

The way it is shaping up, a new tank may be the cheaper option.

Thanks for the line........I will get in touch with this guy.

So very true Sir, such a nice market.. so many people, so many parts... so easy to buy from there... gotta love the Internet... (unless your a wrecker)
