WOOHOO!!

I didn't go with the RC8-R model because most of the upgrades I would be playing with and modifying anyways. 1240cc kit here we come!! soon haha

Bought a Black one from work and I pick it up on Tuesday. The Akropovic is on, just waiting for some other bits to arrive on Monday...

Zeno is going to play with the handling part! haha

I had a customer tell me that a Policeman followed him over gladesville bridge, the guy was doing 180+ on his RC8 and the cop couldn't get a radar hit on his ducktail because of the triangular shape!! haha at night of course...

I will change the pic when I take some photo's. Can't find a descent pic of a black one on the net...

Congrats on the new bike, but just wondering why you didn't buy the R as your main purpose is track use so lighter wheels etc would have been worth while.

Because you sell them your reasoning for not buying the R may help others make there minds up.

Devilish
31-03-2010, 01:58 PM
Good Question zRoYz. Alot of people have asked this.

Main differences between RC8 and RC8-R is the Engine size, Upgraded Suspension, adjustable steering head angle. Price, at the moment a RC8R is 5k more. 2009 Standard RC8's are cheap as chips compared to $29500 ride away normally.

I am a big guy 136kgs, therefore no matter what I do, I have to get the whole suspension redone by Zeno. So not worth paying the extra when he is going to change most things for me anyways. Maybe even swap out rear shock?? not sure yet, seeing Zeno tomorrow.

Engine size: The Standard is 1148cc and the R is 1195cc, it R lets you rev 500revs more before hitting redline. Yes the power makes a difference, but having 155bhp on the standard as opposed to the 170bhp on the R, I am sure I will not be able to use the full amount of power that even the R has. If you want to upgrade the engine on the RC8-R's the only option you have is the KTM superbike kits, readily available at $15k a pop, plus about 3 days labour. On the standard you can get aftermarket big bore 1240cc kit for about 2grand and labour is only around a day.

So everything that the RC8R has over the standard I was pretty much going to change. I would have been paying the extra 7k for an orange frame, adjustable steering head angle and black swingarm(as opposed to Silver)

Bang for Buck the standard has got it covered at the moment. If was going to buy a sportsbike for the road and not modify it, I would have the RC8R in a second, but for what I am going to do, it wasn't worth it...

Zeno saw it today and played with some settings and now it's actually very Agile... the factory settings were shocking... It will go back to Jim later to have springs changed etc... Can't wait to unleash it at the track!!

1down5up
01-04-2010, 05:31 PM
yeah i bet it was a bit shocking (usualy set up for a 80 kg rider out of the box ) would of been riding way low on the sags /used a lot suspension travel ( as you are a big bloke ) did he set it up for the track or road or best he could working with what ya got (standard springs valveing ) he should have you in the ball park now and you can refine it on monday if ya have any problems with breaking or T 5 wollow like my duke had

Devilish
01-04-2010, 05:37 PM

Devilish
01-04-2010, 05:48 PM

Honestly I know money isn't flowing after purchase but the few hundred you will throw at the standard rear shock is better spent on an aftermarket because in the end the money you spend on the standard shock goes down the drain. Your probably better to do forks & play with standard shock adjustment due to brand new & saving till time to upgrade. That way the few hundred to redo standard shock is already in the kitty for the new shock instead of starting saving from scratch.

Devilish
01-04-2010, 06:29 PM
I see your Point zRoYz, but I am not the best racer out there and I don't think I need the Ohlins... I just need the shock and spring set up for my weight and were all good :)

doh very true forgot KTM used WP standard. is the only difference between the R the rear shock has high/low compression?

WET4URacing
02-04-2010, 08:13 PM
i dont know . only looked at the devils new ride at the Z mans shop. the devil can answer this as he has the sales jargin.

Devilish
02-04-2010, 09:10 PM
All my sales jargin says that the suspension is the same, but the KTM techie's say it's an 'upgraded rear shock'... next time I'm in the shop I will crawl over the rear shock to see if model numbers are the same or not... Had a quick side by side look the other day and the look to be the same. Internals not sure about so I will check the numbers and see....

I think Zeno has talked me into Ohlins front and rear.... well, I'll blame him for it anyways.. haha
