These bikes are in the same price bracket and I am looking at entering club level racing for next year.

So while I'm racing these 'old bikes' I'll be saving for a brand spanker to enter SuperStock in 2009 or 2010.

The 400 will teach me corner speed and things will be happening 'a little slower' so I can build more race craft.

Then the ZX6R is quite cheap and alot more power to play with and since I my ultimate goal is Aus SuperStock I think sticking with 600 is a better idea.

With the ZX6 I may be able to learn stuff like big wheelies too :lmao:

Opinions people! Which one do you guys reckon is the better option?

If theres a difference in spare parts cost and availablility that should play into it too... the 400's are popular.. and maybe a little overpriced? I dunno, theres a few here who could comment on that. The ZX6R is common, no probs for getting parts at the right price. Tyres too.. if you want race take-offs you'll get them easier for the ZX6R...

If the VFR400 has an 18" rear rim you will be limited to Bridgestone slicks & only one compound.
Parts are getting a little harder to find for the VFR's though still a lot of spares for a CBR400, prices are a little expensive due to the racing class always taking them.
400's are great fun & arent that far behind the older model 600's, you will learn good corner speed & they brake & handle really well.

It would be a personal preference but I would be really looking hard at the availability of VFR400 spares before committing yourself. Give Geoff Pearson a call at RB Imports, Taren Point, (02) 9524 3177 They basically make a living of the 400 race class so will have a good idea of what is around.

Zippa is spot on, being just a little bit of a VFR freak I tend to follow the market & know the bikes. The biggest problem with the VFR400 is price vs demand & demand is high which keeps there secondhand prices high. There is the other factor that the RVF400 meets Lams so learners want them & buy the VFR400 carbies to bolt on which are bigger for the extra hp (carbies are only reason the VFR400 doesn't meet Lams rating).

Parts are not a major worry as they can be found Ebay & RB (they get them from os too) & the VFR400 motor doesn't fail very often.

The more cost effective bike is the ZX6, but the VFR400 motor is so strong that in the long run the VFR400 could be the better buy but more money upfront.
