GSXR600K7
Had an issue at the weekend and looks like the clutch rod oil seal has gone on my race bike, was leaking about 200ml over just a 10 lap race... so need to find a mechanic who can replace it (got a feeling it requires the engine removed!). Also at the same time I think the gearbox\clutch might need checking as it was making some strange noises+vibrations (probably due to lack of oil pressure)
Anyone a mechanic or know one, who would do this work for cash!?
(I can remove the engine if need be)
Need it back up and working for St George 17th April :(
Thanks C

where are you located?

Am located in Balmain
I would do it myself but:
a) would take me ages and a damn sight longer than someone who knows what they are doing
b) have no idea how and what to check in regards to gearbox
c) have already arranged easter weekend holiday, and girlfriend would kill me if i cancel it to work on race bike

so have now dropped the engine out and stuck it on the table.... but looking at it thinking:
a) can i be arsed to pull it apart when i have no idea what i am doing?
b) if i do take it to someone, is it going to cost me a fortune?
have looked on ebay and there are used motors for approx. 2K from the states, so not sure i can get it fixed for the same or less. (not that i actually know what is wrong with it)
anyone else had experience in dismantling a gsxr 600 engine? how did you go and would you do it again?

go on get in there and get your hands dirty. if you fuk it up it will only cost you more. they still print print so you can still get some more.

I need to get into the bottom of the engine-gearbox.. do you just stand it on the head and work on it upside down? or is it better to remove the head first, then turn it upside down?

dont need take the head off. empty the oil out then toss it upside down and rip into it

Strongly suggest you take in and let someone who KNOWS what they are doing to have a go.. Its going to cost you more moolah and time and a fuck load of tears by the sounds otherwise..

one half of my brain is saying the same thing... take it to someone who knows what they are doing... but the other half is thinking just give it a go!

Understandable, but youve got the engine out so have already saved on hrs of labour, and having it done proffesionally will give you peice of mind knowing its not going happen again in a hurry or at the worst possible moment.. Do it once, do it right..

Cant get a better offer than this , take it up mate..
If there was no time limit, then playing around with it yourself wouldn't be as big a worry.
But you wouldn't wanna try, stuff it and miss the date.

got the seal replaced and still shagged.. I would guess its a bearing in the gearbox, but like i said, a guess.

Okies... just i saw this on the manual I have (might be a different engine to this ??/) but the fact it had a seal retainer, made me think if you removed the retainer, then you could pull out the old and press in the new ??)

I originally thought it was just the seal, which i got replaced, but there is something more seriously wrong. When riding it I can feel vibrations coming from the engine... like its going to shake itself apart at any minute!

Ahhh... now thats a different story..... Yep go give it to Wetty BEFORE you pull it apart..
No Engine Builder will want to take an engine in a semi dismantled state... Its suicide for them to take it over as they couldnt really give any guarantee on their work (whos fault issues if other things go pear shaped).....
