Ducati 1098 recall in UK

By Steve Farrell

Consumer news

14 May 2007 18:00

Ducati’s 1098 is being recalled over two separate problems, the firm said today, Monday, May 14, 2007.

A statement issued by the firm said: “There are currently two safety recalls for the 1098 which are being dealt with under usual Department of Transport guidelines. The first recall concerns the cam belt pulley tensioners which were found to not be within specified tolerances during the early production of the bike. The second recall is for the fuel pipe clips which are checked for proper installation. In both cases the number of bikes affected is very small.”

The firm has so far failed to confirm exactly how many bikes are affected or the precise symptoms of either problem. Spokesman Alan Jones said: “As far as we are aware, none of the fuel pipes checked so far has needed altering and we have not been made aware of any failures directly attributed to these recalls. It is not uncommon for there to be early issues with new models from all manufacturers and we are satisfied that any quality issues have been quickly addressed.”

He said owners would have been notified by letter. MCN will be constantly updating this story as more details become available.

Yeh wait to the electronics plays up.

I don't like the auto cut out overheat in the electronics package, it cuts the engine off & wont start again till cools to predefined value, just great if fire out an apex & the motor dies. It looks cool, but way to much electronics for my liking, wait till someone has to replace the black box out of warranty (it sits under the seat & is as big as a laptop because thats more or less what it is). I would rather a slipper clutch as well for the road, controling it via electronics is asking for problems.

your lucky you didn't get a goldwing. Last year we had 3 guys from Japan Honda who came over here and had to strip down a fair bit of the bike just so to weld part of the frame right down under the bike. Thes guys were funny as they were dressed in white overalls haha. The bikes after stripped were taken to a guy over near windsor and welded up. All this came about as some guy i think in the US took honda to court as his bike snapped in hlf while towing i think.
We had all the goldwings in Sydney come to our shop and these guys had parts and bits in piles for each bike. I was amazed to see after each bike not one bolt or srew was left behind. I tell ya too working on goldwings isn't a fun job.

Ya know just about all new bikes have an automatic temp. cut-out? My zx10r won't cut out until 115 according to the manual. If it ever got that hot i'd want it to cut out!

As has already been said, damn ducatis! :p
