Hey all, as the title suggests, I'm pretty bummed about the off at turn 9 at EC on Monday and want some advice as to what to do.

The major isses I can see so far are the bent frame at the enginemount lower right hand side, probably a new crank case needed and new front fairing stay and fairings. I'm not sure if everything is staright so it may need to be checked over. I kind of want to do something with it soo so the engine doesn't seize as all the oil is long gone. (watering the grass on the downhill at turn 9)

I honestly have no idea what I might get for parts although I know quite a few of you guys have the 03-06 CBR's as track bikes...

Please let me know your thoughts...

Seriously though, you need to assess the cost benefits of parting it out vs. conversion into trackbike. Start by pricing some parts up that you'll require to fix it and decide whether it's worth the money and heartache to fix vs. the costs you'd recoup by parting it out and putting the proceeds towards an already set up trackbike.

Strip all the fairings off & get Laurie judge to whether it's worth repairing. Parts are plentiful on ebay, but if the frame's not repairable your in trouble............I could use some spare wheels for wets.:lmao::lmao:.........You could make it your tracky if it's repairable (cheaper option)

What Slowbro said. But from what I saw at the track. I would say you might find it cheaper to break it up and sell the bits on eBay . Put the cash towards a trackie. All depends on your mechanical skills ?

No one can tell anything from words, you need to at least post some pics but doesn't sound to good. If the damage is extensive & you have zero mechanical skills then your better off just selling the wreck because you will be able to buy another bike with the money you will waste fixing it especially if you want to keep riding it on the road. I can see everybody saying track bike but I'm thinking it was your road bike & you would like to still ride on the road so plowing money into making it a track bike isn't going to get you back on the road.

I'd say sell the bits and buy a track bike (if that's what you're after). I did this exercise not long ago and even picking up a cheap bike in good condition from the auctions was still a bad idea compared to buying a track bike someone else had already built. I know you wont have to purchase the bike but realistically speaking, how much do you think you can get for it as is right now??
If you want the same bike (600RR 05/06) you can find them track ready for about 5.5 to 7.5K depending on mods and grip to reality of the seller. If you can sell your wheels/forks and engine (if they're salvageable of course) you're half way there already. Fixing the frame might not be too expensive if you know how to strip the bike and put it back together, otherwise it's gonna cost you I think.

I'll post some photos tonight once I strip all the fairings off and get the grass and kitty litter out of it. I am mechanically inclined so that doesn't phase me. My main concern is the frame. But I'll get some pics and see if I can talk to Laurie about it. If the frame is repairable it will be a track bike,I already own it outright so I'll save some cash and pick up another road bike in a few months. If the frame is toast, I'll part it out and offer it first dibs on parts to anyone on the forum who's interested.

Out of interest... Did you have an oggy knob bolted to the frame mount that was ripped off ?? (I cant remember).... If you are gonna track it then put up a list of parts you need as I'm sure they are all in some RATS garages collecting dust and most here have gone through what you've done so can sympathise.

There were no Oggy knobs on it, so I'm a little baffled as the how the engine tore itself out, but what's done is done... We'll see when I get into it tonight.

That must have been one crazy crash you had there... Especially considering it was out of T9!

It did somersaults once it slid off the track and into the grass. That's probably the worst bit. Interesting to hear someone else did it too.

Once they start to somersault the damage becomes extensive, Clarkey bike smashed the engine because it high sided & the CBR954 is known for the weak spot on the engine case it cracked.

I don't want my dribble to take this thread off topic.

Darke99 I feel for you, and if I was in your postion I would strip it and sell the parts on ebay and look at buying a second hand completed tracky.

My short commings are many

Hope the damage isnt too bad mate, like i said on the day if you are parting it out i would be interested in the forks/front brakes. Let me know if you need help with anything or need to measure/compare any parts with a '04 CBR against yours.

Cheers,
Duncan

Don't think so because if I'm not mistaken in this pic you will see the black frame bkt that is like a clamp & has a bolt & a silver hollow round sleeve. That round sleeve normally has a engine mount bolt through it & is also the bkt you use when fitting frame sliders & it should be aligned with motor so looks like your frame is stuffed as I don't think that is fixable. That means new frame which if you can't find one secondhand is a major cost item & if your not able to strip the bike yourself big money labor charge.

Yep, I think you're right there! I didn't really noticed that whilst browsing through the pics at first... It does look like that bkt is out of aligment.

There are members on this forum who can strip a bike like a vulture strips a carcass, one of whom has already posted on this thread. If you reposted as wanting help, I'm certain it would be forthcoming.

So you know what that part of frame should look like:
15 is the engine bolt completely snapped off.
32 clamp bolt & 4 sleeve are the other parts you can see facing the wrong way.

Hell yeah i'd buy that shot.... Might help explain what happened. Here are some of the shots of it stripped down. I have 3 issues to look at.

1) Subframe

http://nswroadandtrackbikes.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=7486

2) Bent Frame (Creased as you can see in the next few shots)

http://nswroadandtrackbikes.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=7485

http://nswroadandtrackbikes.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=7484

3) Crankcase I think.

http://nswroadandtrackbikes.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=7490

http://nswroadandtrackbikes.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=7488

Certainly not pretty. I'm going to continue tomorrow and get all the airbox, exhaust and wiring out and see how it looks once I drain the rest of the oil and pull the clutch cover off. There are some bits inside the clutch cover so it may not be nice.

Not good that damage is going to need a complete motor strip down, new top crank case & new frame by the looks of things. With that amount of damage to main bike components you maybe better off simply scraping it for parts.

I saw the frame for $1100 and am currently looking at a possible motor out of the US if need be for about $650 shipped, so ignoring fairings, I'm thinking about $3000.00 in parts to get it all back together. Scrapping the engine and frame, I'm not sure I'd get enough for all the parts to buy another track bike....
