Hello all. Heres a story for those of you who are interested. For those of you who aren't sorry to bore with it, but I have to tell it again. Everyone else I know has lost interest.
I got out of bed at 3am yesterday morning, jumped in my car and commenced a drive down to phillip island pulling an empty trailer behind me (I was travelling alone). After arriving there at about midday I quickly remembered that phillip island (having only been there once before for last years moto GP) is an additional hundred kilometres on top of the distance to Melbourne. After getting over that pleasant discovery I drove through the busiest streets of Melbourne that my "whereis.com" guide could have possibly found for me (picture the melbourne equivalent of Kent St, Sydney on a Friday afternoon). The directions provided by that particular website will get you there, but will ensure that your trip takes as long as possible.
So with a couple extra hours of traffic added to my journey I finally arrived at my destination. I met with a chap who was able to provide me with what I was looking for. I made my purchase, loaded the trailer, said goodbye and drove back into the traffic. 3 hours later (I didn't stop. Just imagine my trip into Melbourne, only twice as bad) I hit the Hume Motorway and was on my way home.
I kept driving, skipping food in preference for just completing the journey (as I had done all day). I managed to make it as far as Yass. Here I thought after 1800kms in 21 hours it was probably time for a powernap. I rolled back the seat and set my alarm on my phone for about an hour later. Of course I slept through this and instead woke at about 4am freezing my arse off and unable to move my head/neck back into the position it used to be in. After recovering from these ailments I drove another 200 kms and timed my run beautifully to discover the M5 was shut completely in both directions as a result of a truck accident. I used the opportunity to go visit my parents and show them the purchase. The M5 stayed shut for quite a few hours and I ended up driving an alternate route back into the city and made it home.
So after 2000 kms in 24 hours including about 6 hours of gridlock, a brief battle with hypothermia, starvation, a sore neck and a shitload of bad language I ask you: Was it worth it?
Check out the purchase and you be the judge.
Bring on the Friday and Saturday Eastern Creek double!
