View Full Version : Race glass on Street-Legal bikes??

So with the Wife downed and damaged (my KTM RC8), I'm looking at alternative fairing replacements to the exorbitantly costly KTM fairings. I'd be interested in all/any options. I'm wondering if there is any good knowledge on options here. I'd love to use some easily replaceable race-glass, but I wanna keep the bike street legal and not looking like Frankenstein.
Anyone have some knowledge/ideas?
Otherwise, if you're selling a solution - feel free to PM is to me.
Thanks

See why it's so easy to stuff up when your having an affair! It was the 'the mistress' that went down, not 'the wife'!! well, according to your signature that is :)

it would take about 2 hours to strip and replace with race fairing... and it's a BITCH! to strip it...
Your better off buying race glass and modifying it so you can still fit your rear tail light and head light... will look like shit... but hey, it's raceglass.... Mirrors will still bolt on the same, their brakcet doesn't change, and cut a hole in the back so you can bolt your numberplate bracket on and off....

Dude maybe they are both a bit pissed off with life because their man just kinda rushed into the whole deal and a bit of leisurely easing in to the groove and finding one's mojo and getting into a comfortable ryhthym as part of the foreplay wouldn't have left them so scratched up and feeling a bit shabby in public ;)

That bike is way too nice to fit raceglass to it, I would just replace the fairings. Besides, I assume you still want to ride it on the road? Check to see if lights etc fit to the race glass, I'm guessing not all race glass will accomodate lights.

not too hard to get these to have lights. if you have a little time and can play with bits n pieces. easiest bit is fittin the blinkers :)

Thanks for your input guys. I am just a bit confused though but the back and forth responses. Is it really doable, and if so, does it require lots of additional work to make it fit?

Get a price of buying race glass. For labour to make them fit. Price to get them sprayed . Then do the msths really. Also will kill resale price over OEM I would imagine.... I buy Chinese ones cos for my bike models, they are cheap as chips, fit well ( enough) and come in variety of themes... Makes crashing them an excuse to change. Lol.

Wetty,
Will that belly pan fit with the Akrapovic AND with the stock exhaust? Also, you spray em, or do I need to get that done elsewhere?
Hey what do you guys think of a PINK RC8? Yes it'll look pretty, but will it look as lame as Kerrod's spray painted girl?

no idea with stock pipe. i spose so. ask kerrod. he has akrapovic' pipe so 1 part of the answer is there.
i am about to have a 09 CBR1k painted with pink on some of it. painting is done after the bodywork has been fitted and yes can do.
