Because I can :ayyy: myself & partner in crime Kirbster are about to upgrade our track day weapon from the KR750 (VFR750) too a 07/04 model CBR1000RR.
I have been searching for the right bike for over 1 year when the track day bug bite me hard, but because I only wanted a track day bike so limited use & resale I ddn't wish to spend big $$.

I found a bike that fitted what I wanted & so thought might be a good Idea to post up my build up to make the KR1000RR :mod_smilie_rockwoot

The bike I found has been stored away for some time as last rego date is 05 & bike only has 7000kms on the clock, it's a stat ride off so can never be put back on the road. For the life of me I can't see why except from what I'm told allot of 1000cc sports bikes get stat ride offs when repair cost is major to cut down on bikes been stolen for parts.

This bike has had a front end hit as rear is untouched, but frame, radiator, clipons, top triple, wheel, rotors, calipers are all fine. Body work doesn't matter because race glass will be fitted where needed.

This is the beast in question striped down (I have only had it 12hrs)
http://img111.imageshack.us/img111/4676/picture008ya5.jpg (http://imageshack.us)

With all damaged parts removed front end, you can see the radiator is untouched which is strage for front end hit.
http://img111.imageshack.us/img111/6705/picture007iz8.jpg (http://imageshack.us)

Parts list to be able to ride on track:
1. Forks
2. Lower triple clamp
3. Steering head bearings
4. Race glass
5. Slicks

Parts list to improve bike for track use:
1. Revalved front forks
2. Ohlins shock
3. Rear sets

My est to do all of above is under 8K which isn't to bad for a CBR1000RR track weapon.

Parts on the maybe list:
1. Full performance exhaust system
2. Power commander

As I find parts & do more work I will update this thread :ayyy:

Hows the front wheel?
Did you get the dash unit since these have the HISS system built in, if you dont have the matched dash then the ECU becomes useless.. there are options, the Dan Kyle ECU will bypass the HISS, but you need to still get a usa dash and potentially a USA wiring harness... or a HRC one..
Log into www.1000rr.net as there is a huge amount of good info on this bike there.

Front wheel & rotors are fine.
I have instruments & key so bike has already been started after I charged the batt, like I said very sweat deal.

Bargain? how much was it?? man im jealous :)

I paid $4750 :mod_smilie_rockwoot

Forks, triple clamp & axle will cost me about $700 (already sourced)
Stearing head bearings $75
Race glass about $1000 with paint (Prob do cheaper)

That above makes bike rideable :ayyy:

Above is reason I can have ohlins, fork revalve & rearsets :mod_smilie_rockwoot

Hey guys just thought Id chip in, I have the Kyle ECU and its works great, you will need a USA or HRC wiring harness but it does work perfectly with the Aussie (Euro) Dash.

If you havent already got steering head bearings get tappered roller bearing instead of the standard ball bearings they have much better feel and have more scope for adjustment..

Also make sure you have your frame checked by a professional frame straitener (Id suggest Laurie Alderton) If the forks were damaged that much I can garauntee you it will need straitening :(

Cheers Jai :)

Laurie is a legend... while hes at the frame give him the front wheel... you cant always see bad damage - serious!

This might help: http://cgi.ebay.com.au/HONDA-CBR1000RR-BRAIDED-BRAKE-LINES-MASTER-CYLINDER_W0QQitemZ200111618476QQihZ010QQcategoryZ3 5230QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

Yep that's the bike.

I have already used Laurie Alderton twice to fix my RC51 front wheel & he will be given frame to inspect only if I find things to be out. Not very hard to inspect a frame you just need reference points.

I also only replace steering head bearings with tappered roller bearings all my bikes have then.

Great info thanks

I had a look at that last week, along with the 04 R1 they had there. But I decided to stick with my current bike.

Your bike looked hella clean for a totalled bike. I went over all the bikes they had, and this one looked great (apart from the crash damage, obviously).

GOOD WORK!

The R1 to me is toast (the black one) it just has to much damage radiator is pushed so hard back on the headers there bent in, good if your after a motor :(

I looked at this bike when it first came up had a good chat with the fellow (I have bought there before) it helped I wanted it for a race bike so he told me a price he said would get me the bike, I agreed & I now have bike. The best part is after pulling it apart & inspecting further there is next to no damage as far as track bike goes. More or less just forks, lower triple & race glass & she is ready to roll.

Sweet, looking good boys. This bike should have a shitload more mumbo than the VFR. It doesn't look like it will cost you guys too much money either.

zRoYz
15-06-2007, 04:18 PM
Wet4U http://www.wet4uracing.com.au/

I wouldn't order any until I get mine & have a look, the only reason I say that is there either flat out or very slack because I ordered it over 2 weeks ago & when I sent a email asking how long, I was just told they had 2 other sets before mine to do (that was on the 4th). I know they have to make them so accept the wait it's just not knowing when I can expect them is a pain when I can buy other stuff 3 day delivery. I didn't know they had to make the stuff when I ordered, but thats what you get with internet ordering.

roy, the guy is just at pendle hill, i've been there cause that's where i picked mine up from, he doesnt actually make them, somone else does and then it get's sent to him

Birdman45
19-06-2007, 08:28 PM
Yep, Paul Grant Mitchell. He has lots of stuff "made" and branded Wet4U. He was actually part of Honda's race crew this year too until they pulled the pin as he didn't "suit Honda's stlye" or something like that . LOL Read into that as you will, but as for the farings, fibreglassers are a pain in the arse. I had a mate in the same game a while ago and every one of them seem to be the greatest guy on earth first up, willing to do anything and far better than everyone else, until the 3rd or 4th set then they're too busy, hard to get hold of, work is shit, It was apain, so he got out of it mostly. In other words, it may not be Pauls fault entirely.

zRoYz
19-06-2007, 09:26 PM
Well the factory/shed apparently got flooded out which is reason for delay, but didn't know until I sent another email to find out whats going on. I can be a understanding fellow but when you have customers waiting for stuff & there in your data base of current orders a email letting them know the score takes all of 5 mins as he only gives one line answers.

Something along the lines of "factory was flooded & you will receive your parts the next full moon".

What really pisses me off is you try to support Australian made stuff & there the people that stuff you around the most & you end up waiting 4 times longer for stuff than if you just source os. I have bought secondhand parts & new parts os & it never takes longer than 7 days, in Australia order something from a distributor or manufacturers & 4 weeks later you might have your parts if you know voodoo. I had the Puig distributor here make me wait 6 weeks & after being told the screen was in there shipment the next phone call I found out it wasn't & they didn't even ring to tell me. I told them to shove the order & contacted Puig direct with my problem, they took a few days to answer email but when they did I had my screen in 3 days & paid less than distributor price. Yes yes its the taxes & governments fault we all pay for the middle man mark up, but that doesn't make an excuse for there slack service when you can buy same part & get much quicker.

He he - Well I dunno how much of what I have heard is true (of course); but I did hear some gory-goss the other weekend up in Queensland from Greg and Julie of Racer's Edge about their industry - but nah, I ain't a spreader... good luck with getting it sorted Roy, and pop-by for a brew when you know more of the fork's performance?

Well the bike only needs slicks & race glass to be complete, everything else is done.
Intake flapper valve has been disconnected, exhaust valve has been disconnected & servo lines removed, braided lines, revalved forks, Vortex rear sets, Vortex fairing stay, new steering head tapered roller bearings, O2 sensor bypass, all fluids replaced.

slicks are a no brainier & will be installed at track by whitey, the race glass has become a nightmare. I have some coming that is already painted but the guy sending it just doesn't seem to move along at a very fast pace.

I'm waiting till next week on above after that, I'll have to look elsewhere.

I already like the Vortex rear sets the boot grip is great.

Does the Race Glass bolt up to the standard Fairing mounting brackets ???

jasonbw
14-07-2007, 09:45 PM
Sure does, but how easily depends on the brand.. racers edge seems to be considered the best fit, just be careful to buy the right year.. 04/05 is diff to 06 and up.

Yes, most new glass isn't pre drilled so you have to drill the holes but normally the divert is there for location at all mount points.

If you want to order new glass & supplier doesn't have it in stock, then expect to wait 4-6 weeks because there slacker than the panel beating industry.

Have you thought of going OS for the glass. I know, could be a risk in quality and freight would be exxie but on the plus side, you'd have it in a week. :)

Just had a look for my own interest and I was surprised at the price. $680 delivered including paypal fee.
