I have just got a letter from Jan at St George MCC saying she is looking forward to seeing me at the first race meet for 2011 on Saturday 5th February 2011. There is no mention of any other details like venue and I can't find it on the club website. That is only about 7 weeks away so does anyone else know any more about it?

I got the letter too.

I phoned Jan today. Yes, Saturday 5th is definitely on, and will be at Wakefield. They'll be putting the entry information up on their website soon, and will notify people by SMS apparently.

Hey wettie, I just spoke with Jan, and all the racedates have been changed to the weekend after each published date. Don't worry about everyone else talking about certain dates, you just turn up on the weekend after OK?

OK, so last night/today Toecutter and I started prepping the Gix for it's race debut.
*Lockwired caliper bolts, sump plug, oil filler cap, radiator cap.
*Drained tand flushed coolant and replaced with non glyserol racing coolant.
*Removed side stand.:(
*Engine cover protection fitted.
*Belly pan is drilled, just need to get plugs.

Am I missing anything?

shark fin(beattie guard)

and still as far as i know there is still nothing but water allowed in motorcycle rads on a race track(please correct me) but cars can run 20liters of coolant

I think you'll find you are correct, all the crash's I see that involves a V8 supercar, the geen glycol is pissing out everywere.

WOW!! I actually get to correct Wetty!! :ayyy: Well, kind of correct him, cos he's only partly wrong (D'oh!!). If that's a bit vague, let me explain...

Have a look at:
http://www.formula-xtreme.com.au/xtremema.nsf/6e7929353ac5e7c2ca256fe8007b498c/1BEFDC2EEFC4F224CA2577DA007C0BA9?OpenDocument

Seems very clear from the big fella that racing coolants are allowed. However, when I looked further (yes, I'm bored), I discovered that the rules are rather misleading on this point. See:
http://www.formula-xtreme.com.au/xtremema.nsf/27d7a3a07f9eabf6ca256b7300249e6e/02c6f83ea0360eaeca2576d8007b7005/$FILE/2010%20FX1000%20Rules.Final%20.pdf

(which, to save you looking it up, says: "No Ethylene Glycol base coolants or other products are allowed to be used in the radiator or cooling system.") It's this "or other products" section that strikes me as problematic. I took the "no other products" to mean "no other types of coolant additives", but it looks like he's suggsting that in fact it means "no ethylene glycol coolants or any other ethylene glycol products". I've just posted in the first thread above, so we'll see what Terry has to say.

However, St George follows the GCRs, which clearly state: "15.2.1.5 The only liquid coolant permitted is water". So we're kinda fucked either way....

Back to the straight water I suppose..

Krack
20-12-2010, 08:19 PM
Yeah. It looks like thats the safe way. Guy I spoke to who raced in St George series said he ran the non glycol coolant and would show scrutineers the bottle of what he used and was always fine. If I use water should I flush it/drain it between races/trackdays?

Anyone have any info on licensing requirements for next year?

In the riders briefing at the last St George round Chris Baker definitely said riders will need an AASA to race in St George rounds for 2011.

Anyone know if this is still on the cards?

Should I fork out for the MA license or the AASA

HYPE
21-12-2010, 02:54 PM
I'd wait and see Dunno... you can always re-register your MA licence (one day/annual) come the time if StG continue accepting them, otherwise sign up with AASA pre meeting

Agree with Hype but BEARS have been told that MA licenses will be accepted next year (I'm racing Vic, SA and Qld so need an MA one) Chris was saying the meeting will run with an AASA meeting licence

What do you have to do to get a AASA license. I"ll only be running in the St George series so I don't want to fork out for a MA license if I don't need one.

AASA are accepting MA licence's next year according to a recent press release.
Why St George are encouraging the uptake of AASA i have no idea ,its a farce really .

dadat178
21-12-2010, 07:00 PM
Not sure St George are encouraging anything, but after what happened (as far as the little I know) in the run up to the 4 hour this year, they would probably have good reason to. James - any Farm dates for Jan?

I thought St George were saying they were hoping to be able to except MA next year but they said for everyone to keep an eye out for any changes if AASA weren't going allow .

Marshy
21-12-2010, 07:17 PM
if AASA weren't going allow .

That's the kicker! What will Terry do? He's perfectly within his rights to NOT accept MA licences next year (although it would be the most SUCKY, MONEY-HUNGRY decision in motorsport since, oh, I dunno, they kicked poor Terry out of ASBK). Personally, I've got until 28 Feb to decide, but my gut feel is AASA licence for racing, and MA recreational licence for track day refunds......!

I went with the AASA licence August last year and whilst it hasnt stopped me doing anything yet I am getting annoyed filling out MA forms at ECRD's (esp when ARDC accepts AASA) amd not getting my refund. Also the restriction that if I want to try my hand in the ASBK also I will def need an MA.

due to a shortage of cash on hand?

WET4URacing

AASA dont work for PCRA as we go to broadford and NZ and a historic car meeting and if you want to go to morgan park no good and if you wanna race at VIC titles at Winton or PI. just tell me to stop. AASA dont work yet

at the time of my MA renewal I was in Thailand and completing everything via email ( no different to normal) when St George dragged their feet alittle in the renewal process of my membership which obviously dragged out the process. When I returned I had a afxc race in one week and still no licence so I opted for the AASA so I coils complete the round. If not for that situation I would have still gone MA the same reasons Wetty has stated.

sorry, should've clarified.. What I meant to ask was why you weren't getting your MA licence holders refund at ECRD's ? is it due to a shortage of cash in the rego office, or for some other reason?
