My Brothers youngest Matt Ogden had his first ever outing on a track bike at Brands Hatch on Sunday on a 05 Honda CBR600RR....

Quote from Brother....
Matt was awesome on Sunday in torrential rain on his first EVERY ride of his CBR600 around Brands Hatch. First practice 100th fastest out of 120 riders, 5th practice 10th fastest!!!!!!!!

Matt's been riding Moto-X since he was 2 1/2 and is pretty handy on the dirt... Was whooping Bradley Smith on the dirt before he moved onto the Spanish 125 circuit.

Brother has links to Ron Haslam so Matt should be getting some tuition from his schools soon...

Hope he turns his talent on dirt onto tarmac... seems like a blinder of a start !!!

How old is he, Oggy?! 95 places in 5 sessions... Dammit, he just went from the bottom of white to the top of red group in one day and it was raining too!!!!!! I've done like 14 trackdays and I'm still in green!

I thought Lassie was a sheepdog not a Labrador. Maybe Cheech and Chong have been involved?

PotAto potahto Sheepdog's cant ride motorcycles either. Come to think of it, I doubt Cheech or chong have the motor skills to anymore either. At least Oggy's nephew does!

Go The Matt Ogden!

Matt would be 18 and a good foot taller then little me, so my leathers wouldnt be any good.... lol

Not bad lean for the Wet. (again first time on tarmac , learning Brandsl"next corner left or right next" ??)

BEMSEE Rookie 600 Championship, if they come in the top 50% of there first 3 meetings, they can complete the rookie championship, but also for 50 extra each meeting, can do the MRO Full on championship!!

Bemsee is the most competative club in the UK, in its 110th year, but Brands is the home and localish track for us, only an hour away.
We'll obviously do every Friday test day before the 2 day weekend meetings, and they are racing at Brands, Snetterton, Silverstone, Donnington. Cadwell, Oulton, Pembrey!, Angelsey, Castle Coomb.

I'll have to get over to see the relo's and see some of these fantastic cirsuits close up.....

Shits me.

Here I am terrified to go more than say 10 degrees over in a turn, and this kids leaping all over the place and practically going horizontal in the corners!

Well done to him though.

Now off to find some balls.

colinginger
09-06-2011, 04:14 PM
if it makes you feel any better... apparently (just passing on what i was told!) there is more grip on a UK circuit than here.. the tar is made from different compound and material, as they don't need to deal with the heat that we get here.

I'll let you know ;)

got me knee down racing R6 cup guys at Mallory park no problem in the wet, like you say theyre a bit grippier mostly !!! not all

get a tighter line up the mountain for good air, a more sweeping wider line for a wheely and more drive....ur gunna have a ball, but watch out for Barn corner, can be a bit iffy

Bit of an Update..

After a decent 2nd in the previous round at Brands Hatch, which sparked a few interested parties affering a bit of possible sponsership.

http://www.bemsee.net/component/content/article/1-general-news/396-mike-dommett

They all went to Cadwell to watch him so the pressure was on...

He was rewarded with a 2nd and then two firsts so fantastic for a guy on an older 600 against some pretty decent machinery... (see his webpage for results and some pics)

Ed.. He's 20 http://www.ogdenracing.org.uk/racing/Profile.html

Qualified on front row (4th) in first race as a Rookie.... Impressed.

Didnt finish race as he was holding 3rd when they caught up to a lapped guy.... first two got past and Matt was taken out (from what I can gather off Facebook).

http://www.tsl-timing.com/bsb/2013/131404st6.pdf download to see all the info

Best part was he smashed the Lap record... old record was 48.179 he pulled a 47.516 on his fifth lap, so with the record and exposure of qualifying (live on UK TV), hoping he gets some more sponsership.

He's now been sanctioned to use the "Oggy" nickname.... lol

Yep managed to get a copy of the Race Downloaded.... Great race... early qualifying in the Snow (gotta love BSB weather)....

Lost front but luckily no real damage to bike or Rider..

Race Report below..

On his way to a new BSB 600 Superstock lap record for the Brands Indy Circuit - 47.516 second lap.

The first round arrived with some of the coldest April weather for years. The Go Racing Developments team assembled for the first time and we were confident, following Matt’s testing in Spain, that he could run at the front, now was the time to put theory to the test.

Friday free practice was attempted in a snow storm, but in First Qualifying Matt got a superb 3rd position with a 48.951 second lap. As usual Matt was able to turn to Mark Sadler to analyse the data and found sectors where we could see the opportunity to further improve times. Saturday saw the weather bright but cold. Second Qualifying saw the pace increase still further, with Matt improving on his already incredible pace and snatching a front row place with 4th position and a new PB of 48.486 lap. Despite improving his previous best at the Indy Circuit it was clear from the data that the section from Druids, through Graeme Hill bend to the start of Clearways, needed some work. Mark Sadler and Matt poured over the data and were both confident a solution had been found. Only the race would tell!

Sunday, here we were unfamiliar territory at BSB level; first round and on the front row. The weather was bright and the sun was out, all our focus was on the clock 11:50, the start of the race. There were a whole load of new distractions for Matt to contend with, interviews, live television and not least the Grid Girls. From the times posted in qualifying by the leading riders there was the potential of the race being run a record pace; 4th on the grid and on the inside for the run down to Paddock Hill, it would be all about the start!

Lights out! “A fantastic start by Ogden” exclaims Whitham. Ogden? This is real. Matt is 5th as he drops down Paddock Hill, Simpkin and Collier are clear and Matt is mixed up in the traffic. At the end of the first lap Matt is 5th as he crosses the line and the two front runners are away with a clear track. In an audacious move Matt lines up his pass taking a wide line into Paddock and pulling it tight to position himself between 3rd and 4th. On the run up to Druids, leaving his braking impossibly late, he gets ahead; now to make up the 3 seconds to the leading two!

Matt is riding a mature race; he gaps the field behind him and is visibly catching the leading pair. On the TV James Whitham describes Matt as a “Sunday Racer”, why? We soon realise that Matt, on lap 5, has just taken half a second of the existing official lap record; an incredible 47.516 second lap. The gap is down to just 1.8 seconds, could he? Lap after lap Matt reels off fast laps and the gap is down to 0.9 of a second, 7 laps to go and he is now 5 seconds ahead of the following riders. To win you must push and push hard and on lap 15, with a podium place secure, a simple riding error sees Matt over lean the bike at Druids and his race is over as he slides off.

So no trophy but an elated team, Matt has the pace and the race craft to run at the front with the best Superstock riders in the Country, and he is the fastest ever at the Indy Circuit for this class. A massive well done to Team Go Racing with Jordan Simpkin finishing a creditable second having led for all but 2 laps and a big thank you to Mark Sadler for preparing the bike and interpreting Matt’s on track data.

The rumour around the paddock after the race was that no one until Matt has ever set an official lap record on their first BSB race in their rookie year?

Matt’s’ second full season has started; let’s see where we go next!

Round 2 Report - Thruxton

Friday Q1 - Qualified 15th, 0.9 seconds off front row. Track knowledge is crucial around here, as the slightest hesitation punishes you for most of the lap, as its the fastest circuit in the championship.
Going thro' the data in the evening, showed loads of areas for improvement and even if he just strings half of them together tomorrow, he will be comfortably on the front row.

Saturday Q2 - Was held in torrential rain with standing water on the 150mph straights and fast corners, so unfortunately Matt could not improve on his Q1 grid position, but went out purely for wet testing.
He qualified 4th fastest in the wet, which is a fantastic confidence boost for any wet races to come.

Most of today's qualifying has been cancelled due to these very dangerous conditions.

Sunday race day looks 50/50 for a dry race, but Matt's very pleased with his pace dry and wet around here with such little track experience.

Sunday Race - 3rd fastest lap of the race , started 15th pushed through to 6th with 3rd in sight and was lapping a second faster than everyone apart from the 2 leaders who got away from the early pcarnage, Matt had a massive near highside which you'll see on TV when they show it in a few days' 100+ and lost the rear, dropped back to 9th and then pipped Joe Collier on last corner for 8th so a brilliant result from 15th and probably his most impressive race yet.

and a valuable 8 points.....
