I don't think they have the same effect on the newer bikes

mine has a little bit more of a crisp throttle response.

there is a post on gixxer.com about the same thing and no the bike idles to high and ran rough you'll need one for the k6

If you get a smart tre they shut off in neutral which eliminates the high idle. It will give you a little more poke in first and second gear as the timing is retarded a little in these gears. It basically tricks the bike into thinking it's in 6th gear and gives more timing in the lower gears as a result. Another benefit is some smoothing out of the jerky on-off throttle as part throttle is a bit smoother.

just what I need, more poke in 2nd;)

i actually made one up at one with a resistor with and without switch
followed online guide on how to make it but the FI light kept coming on and the bike ran like a complete bloody dog , this was on a 2000 Gix 750
but in reply to your post
the plugs are the same so there shouldnt be any issues ..... unless they changed the plugs

If it can do something about the retard behind the controls I think my bike needs one of these :)

I read something about doing the linkage has a better result?!?
Im not really fussed on it, I cant keep mine down in 2nd gear anyway.

We tried one on both a 2003 GSXR600 + 2005 GSXR600 and the dyno showed that there was no difference at all. Back to back runs on both race bikes with power and torque curves and numbers extactly the same. Spend your money somewhere else.

What gear were you doing the test in?

i did read somwhere about the TRE that it messes with the air fuel ratio and in time can cause some damage, that's why mines still sitting in the draw, waiting till the next trackday i get to do to test it, i'll be doing a session witout it first, then putting it in to see if theres much difference

What'd be the diff to riding with it v's the above dyno run? Wouldnt be RAM air helping it would it?? Or maybe cause you have the 1000 its worth a check?

Eh, it's not going to do anything on the track.
The only effect that it is supposed to have is in lower gears at lower Rpm's and throttle openings. And even those effects are what is being debated.

i feel its a little crisp now and that little bit smoother in action. If it effects the air fuel ratio and then just adjust that.:confused1:

that's the thing dilbee, that sort of stuff is what a PC and a dyno are for, where if you already have a PC, then there isnt much use for TRE cause you can sort everything like the power and tuning through the PC

Not every thing can be measured on a dyno but it does give a pretty good indication of what is going on. Im not a dyno operator so am not sure what gear it would have been in, probably 4th. If you have a bike tuned properly using both fuel and ignition then it will always be smoother and better every where.
As for ram air it doesnt start to come into effect untill somewhere around 160+ .

I've got one of Ivan's smart TRE's for the K5-K6 that you can try if you like.
I got it shortly after I bought the K5 because I didn't like it's jerky response around town compared to my R1.
It did smooth out the response a little but once I got used to the bike I removed it because I liked having the gear indicator working.
Judging from the earlier comments on this thread there seems to be a wide variation on the TRE's effectiveness on various bikes, and a general misunderstanding of what they do.
Check out the link below for the best TRE test I've seen.

I've been thinking of putting a TRE on my Gixxer thou K6 to simply smooth out the throttle. I recently got the FI remapped at Mick Dyer's and the throttle is so crisp and the engine runs much smoother down low I think it would be a waste to buy a TRE.
Would a TRE be beneficial after remapping?

I'd like to buy a Retard Eliminator. Some of the retards I know definitely need to be eliminated.
