I have been looking around at getting a tank bag, but was concerned about how they go on the paintwork ?

I wouldnt be using the bag everyday i guess, but thought after a while it would proberly leave some buff marks in the paint after you have been on a long trip with it full of gear.

Anyone use one and had any troubles ?

any reports ?

Have used several. My favorite was an oxford expandable job which I lent to a mate. I need it back but I can't remember who I lent it to, so if you are sitting next to my tankbag can you bring it back to me, i'm going on a trip!

If you have a nice tank, the critical thing to remember is to clean it thouroughly before you put it on, every time! Even a tiny grain of dirt will scratch the fuck outta your tank if it gets in between the magnets and tank. Some of that road grud actually sticks to the magnetic plates as well.
If I had a nice tank I would put a piece of clean fabric between the bag and paint.

They are awesome and real easy, the only probs i have had is with blue metal sticking to the magnets if you put the bag on the road or something like that. I wouldnt reccomend a huge bag for long trips either as i have trouble gettin outta the wind and moving about. But a nice compact tankbag with a map pocket on the front and a tail bag or rack and you can go anywhere for as long as you like.

I got a dririder one that zips into two pieces and expands into a gazillion litres if needed.

I just use a cheapo RJ's tank bag for comuting with. It pretty much lives on the bike, but comes off when I'm not on the bike. I realy would not recomend putting a towel, fabic etc under a magnetic bag as the ruberised coating need to be able to grip the paint work, particualrly if theirs to be any "energetic" riding involved. I tried this at first and ended up loosing the bag mid corner. As for paint marks, a bit of dirt etc does get caught under them but so long as you keep the bike washed & waxed it easily cleans off without leaving marks/scratches. Which reminds me, I havent cleaned the bike in about 2 weeks, and probably won't have time too untill the weekend. opps.

Pepsi, you're welcome to borrow mine for a couple of months to try out if you like... I've never had scratches from them and used it a lot. Just have to make sure you don't get under them when they stick on your tank...

Now I have a Bagster cover and bag!
