View Full Version : Trackbike insurance
Now I realise no insurance company covers you on the track, but does anyone offer insurance for track bikes against theft from your place of residence?
I'm getting a bike this week and just would like the peace of mind having it insured because I live in a shit area.
If anyone has any experience or can recommend a company it would be greatly appreciated.
Cheers,
Matt

House contents insurance might be a plan- I have my son's electronic drum kit and DJ gear on policy- pay a little more, but also covers if they transport in car to other places too.

Try Arista, I'm pretty sure they do dirt squitters so they may do normal bikes

AON used to advertise in MA's MoMS that they would insure against fire and theft. Dont know if they still do?
It's called "Laid up" insurance. I have this. It covers me for fire, theft and damage cause during transportation. But the cover ends as soon as the key is in the ignition and is engine started. All the major insurer's have some form of this cover.

My Track bike is insured Third Party Fire and theft with Shannons, and because it's insured with my KTM I get a 2 bike discount which makes it even cheaper

Laid up... hmm, does that have a stipulation of being still roadworthy tho? Good stuff if not as you've answered the mans question.

You can actually cancel an insurance policy and they have to refund you the balance, probably less a "surcharge"

Thanks a lot for the replies guys, greatly appreciated.
Jason raises a good question, must the bike be roadworthy in the case it was stolen? I'm sure insurance companies would try and find any way out they could.

Thanks Fezz, I had that fear when Shannons told me recently (after all this Turtle stuff) that I "SHOULD" be covered when attending Stay Upright and Cali Superbike School. The point being that if I use slicks, or if I tape my numberplate or even just cover my headlights with tape, whats to stop them saying at the point of my accident my vehicle was not technically 'roadworthy'.
I'm sure they know all the tricks in not paying... esp Shannons.
P.s. Seeya at EC on the 28th - woo hoo

Well they know my bike is a trackbike but they still took the insurance! and you couldn't call it roadworthy no matter how you looked at it! :n:

:ayyy: :) :)
Sadly though theres the train of thought that Shannons happily took Turtles money - and said he was covered - only to say when a claim was made that he wasnt covered! Please don't trust them on face value like I did, just a phone call (134646) and ask the specifics. Really, its SO worth the peace of mind.

I've just read Turtles thread and it got me thinking! I will follow the outcome and change Insurance companies if it isn't resolved the way it should be!
Excuse my ignorance but, what has "laid up" insurance have to do with roadworthiness.
My understanding is the motorcycle is covered only as stationary property.

nothing ignorant about that question Zee, but I'd ask why assume Shannons would think logically like us? The thought was posted by me as I now don't trust Shannons so it would never hurt to even ask the obvious.

I know some of you guys have problems with Shannons.... But I've had 4 bikes insured with shannons and never had a problem with them.
I nearly wrote off my last bike, my fault of cause and they replaced every single panel, engine covers, etc even panels that diddn't need replacing! Then gave me $1500 for my road gear that was damaged, which I was aloud to keep and reuse.
They gave ALL the old panels as well. So I basically came way out on top (at least $5000) in the end even with loosing 20% no claim bonus and a few hundred for claiming. All while being friendly and sticking up for me when the dodgy repairer did a lousy job the first time around.

Well I did ring 'em and as I thought "laid up" insurance has nothing to do with roadworthiness.
There is no cover when the vehicle is being ridden under it's own power.
