Finally had 2 days to play about and screw this baby together.
Had it down at aldo's for a fairing mount on the frame to be repaired.
Its a stat from Manhiem mid last year.Theres only been 2 at auction that i have seen and i grabbed em both.
So this is how i got it back from Laurie and now to find where i have hidden all the bits

Very nice! Much frame damage? sounds minor if it was a mount i guess

I'm sure you have used them before & know better than me but isn't the rad overflow bottle a little close to the header pipe & may melt being light plastic. The rad hose is allot thicker & rubber with shielding.

its not finished yet , but there is piles of room. its not a no frills bottle. I usually cable tie them to the rear of the rad and have never had a prob.

$50 worth of repair, the LH fairng mount sticks out a bit far for the tarmac. A bit of heat and a tug and a spot of weld and its fixt. Measured up perfect. Already had an undamaged 10r down to be measured up for future incidents that i hope we wont have , but best to be prepared.

I'm interested to read what colin thinks of the new zx10r is ride to ride?.

FAST! real fast... leaves CBRs and R1s for dead. literally, like they don't have a 6th gear. haven't dragged a bmw yet, but was keeping up with a 1098 down the straight at EC with beau beaton aboard (races in FIM European Superstock100). The engine power is similar to an R6, in that there is not a lot down low, so if you get the wrong gear out of a corner you're screwed. The mid range is good, probably about right, as any more torque woud turn it into a beast and you'd just be struggling to keep the front down (therefore loosing drive). The top end is unreal, rev it past 10K and fu@k me it goes.. it loves to rev and suddenly things become very blurred!

what does it feel like to ride? to me it feels a bit like the R6, but slightly bigger and very much faster. it suits me far better due to being a larger guy and therefore feel like i sit in it rather than on it. It is suprisingly small really.. the most noticable thing in when braking and the last 4-5metres and that's when I can feel the extra weight, can't quite get off the brakes like I would on the 600. But the acceleration out of the corner is just fun!

It does need to be ridden differently, the lines that you need to take are different and it means you need to re-learn the race track. An example would be out of turn 3 and lifting the front over the hill and trying to drop it in time to tip in for turn 4. Or coming out of turn12 and realising there is a slight rise that lifts the front.
Due to the power you need to pick the bike up faster, so try not to carry as much lean angle to get the bike onto the fat part of the tyre to be able to hit the throttle. With the 600 you're taking sweeping lines to keep corner speed to carry out of the corner, with this you want to get into the corner with the shortest distance, turn, stand the bike up and hit the throttle!

Traction control - pretty dam good... have ridden it at a very wet day at EC. With power setting 3 and traction control 3, it's like a very docile 600 and you can open the throttle fully exiting the corner (mid corner T3 full throttle in the wet!) which you could not do on a non traction control 600, seriosuly your grandmother could ride in the wet on those settings! I found power 1 and traction control 2 was the best in the wet, was spining the rear and lifting the front at the same time. In the dry on the race track, am still a little unsure, each setting has it's pro's and cons, so still playing around with it!

Suspension - have not ridden it with OEM, but I can say... DO NOT RIDE a STOCK OHLINS shock on the track without getting it revalved, you'll kill yourself! seriously, it was horrible! can't say what it would be like on the road, but NOT on the race track. We (Zeno and I) are playing around with different shock configurations, it's getting better but not perfect yet.. but we've only done 3 days total of development! (which is good as we've taken some big steps and there is plenty of potential still to come) and am doing pretty quick competitve times as it is. One thing with the bike is that it is very sensitive to suspension changes (again like the R6 was), 2 clicks can make the bike feel completely different, so it's a case of trying to find the baseline and then small variations. I can understand how some people at the track could get lost trying to perfect the bike as you could keep making changes and eventually getting lost. Also the traction control can also effect the suspension, with the cutting in and out can load\unload the suspension, so it's a case of trying to find the best suspension and traction control setting to compliment.

So all in all, very pleased with it so far! think this year is going to be fun and pretty competitive (even tho I'm really looking at just setting up and learning tracks this season for a proper attack next year). Think my time on the R6 last year has set me in good stead due to some similarities and my race craft has developed well during the year in FX600.

Big thanks to Wetty and Zeno so far.. but no slacking off, still got work to do! fingers crossed for first ASBK round at PI (WSBK)

Good job there, Paul. I would love to be able to have some of that skill - but alas- not to be. Still, great to always read on here of those that have that ability to pull things apart AND be able to put them all together again!!
