Hey guys,
I'm moving up to sydney in january to start my first job out of uni. I will be working right in the city and wanted to live as close to work as i can to eliminate the commute.
The thing is it seems pretty hard to find a place to keep my bike. I am probably looking at share accomodation and just wondering what any of you guys who live in or close to the city do.?
So do you have garages? secure complex parking? storage?. Any help would be appreciated.
I have been thinking i might be better off over at coogee or somewhere like that where i am more likely to get parking...
Thanks in advance. Jordan:confused1:

Mate i live about 15 -20 mins from the city and i share acom.
The good thing is my bike fits about anywhere....
I squeeze her in a one car garage up against the wall, no dramas.
But if you don't have this luxury then i'm really posotive you will be able to find a relitivly safe place outside where you live.
We also have a car port (without a roof) that if need be i could leave it ther....just not a fan of the weather....
What area you looking at.....

I don't know sydney that well. But i am working across the road from central station. So i was thinking anywhere in the city and surrounding suburbs. Or if i have too maybe north shore or eastern suburbs such as bondi or coogee or whereever.
I just want to be as close to work as i can so i can walk or take a very short commute. (I also have free public transport if i need it) Plus i figured living in the city would be good for going out and doing stuff.

Yeah mate i understand!
Central is piss easy to get to from basially any surrounding suburbs, so you'll be right.
Not sure what your budget caters for, but the places in the city can usually be very shit or very expensive, places like north shore, eastern suburbs, bondi, coogee are also up there in the price range.
Places like Macquarie, Ryde, Epping, Eastwood are all max 20 -30 mins away from central, if its free and your saving money then you wont mind? yeh?
If you need any help mate PM me and i'll give you my number and i can help you sort something out!

Never, ever, EVER would I leave my bike in the city. I live in the CBD but my good bike is currently located in a high security far away location that will remain unspecified :p
I do leave my commuter on the street though, it's really ugly and beat-up lookin' and it doesn't even have an ignition barrel! I figure if someone is brave enough to start it, then they can have it. It's such a shitbox it seems to have a repellant effect on thieves. Sometimes I walk outside in the morning and see it has been knocked down and run over. I just pick it up, dust it off and ride away.
Where abouts are you working?

living in the city would be awsome but owning a bike without a lockable garage in the city would be a pain in the arse. as hatter said "never ever".
so many arseholes and thieves in one place for a bike without a proper bed at night.

Hatter - I got a graduate job with RailCorp so i am situated at their main offices across the road from central station for the first year or so.
I was hoping that if i could get one of those apartments with "secure parks" (which i know arent real secure) and used some big f*ck off chains and the like i may be right.
Guess i need to rethink that and find some sort of house huh!
Sucks ass... was looking forward to living in the city and walking to work.

Mate give it ago, check out the parking lot see if you think some one could get to your bike. Anywhere u have it, it's not really safe, unless u sleep next to it.
or alternativly get a place just outside the CBD.
As i said mate, need any help give me a call!
Some people (read: many people) will think I'm nuts, but I park my Busa on the footpath in front of my inner west Sydney house. I have a Scorpio alarm with tilt sensor and proximity sensor that warns me, but in over 2 years I've never had a problem...
I guess nobody wants to steal a blinged out Busa...

what ever you do, if you do get a bike, INSURE IT!... at least for theft.
regardless of the security levels you take, there is always some c#$$%t who will try and possibly suceed in nicking it... and $10k-$15k is too big a hole to have in the bank balance!
