Heard one of these 25cc 4 strokes running down the local mower shop and sounded like it had some grunt. Scored one on Trading post for $300 and did a bit of trimming around the house this arvo and I cant really figure out where all that grunt comes from. It ROCKS ! 1.1hp @ 7000rpm
So of course I took it apart to see how it was built and it has a wet cam belt (not chain) and a single overhead cam lobe operating 2 rockers on 2 valves. Still havnt figured out the lube system but is supposed to work on all angles.
But its not really for the lawn, its going in a push bike.

bloody hell there getting hight tech, what are the valve clearance service intervals :)
I just wish someone would invent cord that doesn't snap, I hate always replacing the bloody nylon cord, I drilled out the locking holes so I could use the really thick stuff but it still snaps way to easy. I would use st/st rope but I would end up taking a toe off.
You KNOW what you need to do...

possibly some sort of seperate sump
I have a 23cc hpi baja 1/5th scale RC car. It has a 26cc top end and a few bits and is supposed to make 2hp or so. It does about 70klms on dirt (about 10kg) and will break ankles if you hit someone. You can get 30.5cc engines that they put in RC cars, planes, boats and scooters that have nearly 4hp with porting, stuffed crank, reed valves etc
Does it have torque figures?
I always find this stuff interesting

Little 4-stroke is interesting. Nice design.

I take it it lifts one valve up and pushes the other one down ? ... but then that makes it behave like a 2 stroke does it not, or am I out my depth here ?

the rockers are positioned so that when the lobe is coming off the exhaust rocker it starts to go onto the inlet rocker. Easy.. you only need one lobe. Love to get some timing figures on this cam, sounds wild

What are you doing with the cord that causes it to keep snapping? I've replaced the cord once on my old mower, which was 15yrs old, and on my 8yo whipper snipper i've never replaced it. Sounds like you don't know when to stop pulling :p

I think hes talking about the cutting cord (nylon) not the pull start cord.
Yeah both of my snippers eat cord at an alarming rate, I cut for about 2 meters and have to "bump" or take it apart and feed more line out. specially when snipping next to concrete path or fence.
I have thought about ss cable, I think it would work.
Will be selling the bent tube and cutting head off the Honda soon, with a spare reel of nylon.
dont know how much

i replaced the head with a alloy one that you just feed the cord threw, tends to last longer and you can buy different thicknesses.iv'e had a kawasaki sniper for 14 years now and has not missed a beat,do you believe the same spark plug in it.i know honda make some pretty reliable mowers and stuff but mmmm to many moving parts for me,and a timming belt. At $300 who cares, just go on egay and buy another.:ayyy:

I can answer your question about how the oil works at any angle. On the end of the crankshaft it has an impeller that runs in the sump. This churns the oil to create a mist.
The crankshaft is hollow and this takes the mist (oil) into the engine and lubricates it at any angle. The timing belt also carries the oil up into the head.
My mate build a scooter with the same motor. He also install nitrous, but the hollow crank didn't like it and bent.
I still have my scooter in the shed. It's a 37cc 2 stroke with a 2 speed gearbox with auto clutch. The look on people's faces when they realized that you just change gears is priceless.
The magento magnets have all but snapped leaving it with a short coil build up time and weak spark. I having trouble finding a magneto.
I use to work in a mower shop and i had to attend the honda service day, that's how i know about this motor.

COOL RICHO
my motorised bicycle is almost finished.
Its going to be the most drastically over engineered one ever.
14 speeds ! should reach 80kmh and climb hills in 1st. but its cost almost 2 grand so far (Giant MTB included)

My mate bought a 27cc go-ped at xmas.. uses it to go to the shops n stuff. He scoots past Andrew Scipiones (plod commish) most days doing this too.
It gets upto 46kph screaming its tits off. It only has one gear. Hell fun tho..
Stick that whippersnipper on the dyno Ripperton :p.
Roy, just so you know, Scipione lives down near the water in Lurgarno .. most people slow down past his joint :)
