The last good point that might be missed was Roy letting you know you need to warm your tyres, take a couple of laps of slowly bringing up to your normal pace. Sounds like a lot of people wouldn't have gone down today if they had done that, don't let it happen to you.

Went out there, hoping to get a ride as I had nothing better on and was lucky, they managed to squeeze me in. Thanks again for Vinnie and Irena, for lending me the warmers and stands again, and for carting them out there for me. I really appreciate it, thank you both.

I only rode half day, I've got something on tonight and didn't want to be too buggered for it. I even managed to get back before the rain ... I hope none of you got too wet, because it's pouring now.

It was a good track day, met even more new RATS and spend a bit of time with Nuff, good bloke. Nice riding there mate, I reckon you should go to B2 next time for sure.

Good riding with you guys again, till next time :ayyy:

Good talking to you Capitan, great day, it started raining around 4pm so I've left. Thanks for the tips with T1 Capitan, now I can take T1 with a lot more speed. My Racechrono setup refused to work today and Capitan timed me at 2:11, so I'm going to move up to B2, there's too many people slowing me down in the corners and I'm not great when it comes to overtaking, I prefer to be overtaken :ayyy:

I still can improve in a lot of corners, but that's where more TDs comes in. Did I mention it was an awesome day? I'm finally getting past my mental block and starting to push my bike faster. I've noticed that I've a lot of room for improvement when it comes to my body positioning for right turns, especially in T9.

Good day out there, had a ball, spent the day taking it pretty easy and getting used to the new bike :ayyy: Will take me a while to get up to speed on the 954, but with 1000km of my km on it, it's already showing potential and is a shitload of scary fun - already on the hunt for a steering damper! :lmao:

A fair few offs today, but nothing too major from what I saw - it's a bit annoying when half the sessions are under yellow flags and cut short to boot from binnings in the other groups.

Nuff, saw you going around from a few different places, looking good mate :ayyy:

Cheers Yak :ayyy: one thing I need to work on is braking, I do it too early and a lot of slower riders get in front of me before turn and slow me down.

That should be quickly solved, now that I'm going to be in B2

Now I've rear shock and steering damper on my shopping list.

Ahhh, I loved the 954! Raced one in America in the FX class on Erion Honda and full Ohlins front and rear suspension, lightweight wheels etc. Was an awesome bike.

I'm sure you'll love it when you get the hang of it. More time in the seat is the key.

Had an awesome day. Started slowly, wasn’t sure of the track temp and new slicks.

2nd session had a few fallen riders ran over someone’s visor on the 2nd lap then the session was cut short when 4riders came off.

3rd session was a long one 25-30mins, pushed hard to try and catch Vinnie but never come across him “dam”!! Had a cramp on the 2nd last lap and couldn’t move my leg did a whole lap in 3rd gear. Came good tho.

Last lap of that session seen the red flag I slowed my pace had a look about no one around set up for turn 4 a tight inside line stuck my knee out and lent down to gently rub my knee on the track flicked over for 5 and did it again wohoo, 6trackdays finally marked my knee sliders.

4th session slowed and just had fun in the traffic. And managed to touch the track at a descent pace
Now I just need to work the advantage of knee on ground and what the road feels like and how I can work out my grip with 2tyres and 1knee on the track.

2new members and friends of mine Wade and Jarrod come out and had a blast I hope they’re hooked he he

Ps I over took Vinnie twice :P :stirthepot:

Mate no offense we all love bling but the 675 already has a steering dampner standard and the OEM rear shock aint all that bad, if you want to improve your riding invest that money in more trackdays and get some of the boys to help set up your standard suspension properly.

Just my 2 cents.
Cheers

Captain you might not want to hear this but you know me I will say it anyway, stop buying bling for your bike because you have bought it to use on track allot & as you start to get faster the risk increases allot your going to hit the deck.
No one wants to hit the deck but the only way to improve is push a little harder all the time & this is where at times you can come unstuck & the damage you do can become very expensive when your bike has to much bling when used as a track bike.

I know it is your road bike as well & everybody can't help them selfs buying bling for them but you did buy it for the main purpose of track use so be warned the more bling the more that off at the track is going to hurt. I hope you never hit the deck but people that ride know the risk is high & higher when you start to pick up speed.

You are also right you need to work on your posture as your a big bloke & the 600 is a small bike so you need to start concentrating on your posture not going as fast as you can. Sometimes it takes going slower to go faster.

Do it before ya just about to start braking Capa. That way you've only got your eye's, counter steering and throttle control to think about. You don't wanna be moving around while ya bending it in...unsettling for the bike and you.

Captain
27-07-2008, 11:46 PM
Captain you might not want to hear this but you know me I will say it anyway......

Mate I always have time for your advice, you have not led me astray yet. :ayyy:

You make a good point, in my defence I'm hoping that what I'm getting is not simply bling for bling's sake. With this item, I have removed the rear pegs and the brake reservoir is now hanging in mid-air, unprotected, so I was looking at a way of putting it elsewhere. The 'Rizoma' brand is bling, I admit, but they're only a few dollars more.

The rearsets I'm buying are one of the cheapest (vortex) and this is really for function, and I have a Penske shock on order. The levers were probably overkill, but they feel and look so nice. On that topic, I have noticed that none of the racers use shorty levers; why is that? :confused1:

I did notice that I look a little big on that bike :lmao: what can I do? they make these bikes smaller all the time and damn it, I seem to be getting bigger .. :confused1:
I'm looking forward to the next CSS, that one concentrates on body position, I believe.

I've seen the Sato's around the $ 500 - 550 mark, I don't think I'm familiar with that site Zee, but you're right, $ 400 is great value. I found the Vortex for $ 350 inc brake switch. Price is good, and they seem to be liked.
With some of this stuff you can do your head in trying to decide which brand to buy ...

zRoYz
28-07-2008, 12:04 AM
I'm mainly referring to unnecessary bling rearsets & suspension for what your using bike for & really a necessity. The rear brake res well you have a reason that makes sense now you have no rear pegs.

As for why don't racers use short levers my only answer I can think of is there not aval for Brembo master cylinder as most use them, it could also have something to do with leverage but as most only use a few fingers you wouldn't think so.

Just looking from one picture here mate, so it's hard to judge, but that advice to move your lower body into position before you begin to brake or back off the throttle (while still in the tuck position) is good and then once you sit up, brake, and begin to turn into the corner and lean the bike over, pivot the top of your body forward a little and to the side.

A good way to know how far you are really leaning off the bike is by lining up your helmet just to the inside of the windshield and then you will be able to sense where you are without having to wait for photos afterwards.

Sometimes it feels like you are leaning more than you really are, but the windshield is a good indicator and if you're toward the front a little and your head is off to the side then there will be a pretty good amount of weight on the front wheel too.

For others, some people lean too far and upset the bike that way. Try it. Freddie Spencer and I worked on this for a along time in 2005 and it really did work for me.

Good luck :ayyy:

And once again, it's hard to really tell from one picture and without seeing you on track, but it will at least give you something to try.

And hey, if you like those parts and you have a CBR600, might as well get them! Just make sure you get the Penske set up to suit your weight and ability etc as those racing shocks are a lot more criticle to set up. The standard ones are made for a lot wider margin of rider, if you know what I'm saying.

Have fun, love that bike!

I'm mainly referring to unnecessary bling rearsets & suspension for what your using bike for & really a necessity. The rear brake res well you have a reason that makes sense now you have no rear pegs.

As for why don't racers use short levers my only answer I can think of is there not aval for Belimo master cylinders as most use them, it could also have something to do with leverage but as most only use a few fingers you wouldn't think so.

I find in my experience as a racer and with my friends who all actively race at the moment, the majority of teams use the standard levers etc on all the standard spec bikes unless there is a full on new brake system mounted.

I even know of a few teams who try to get their riders to use aftermarket levers etc, but the riders just don't like to try new things that often when they are in their groove.

A straighter and longer lever will usually give you that bit more leverage depending on the way you brake and how many fingers you use etc.

Thanks Alex.
To be honest, I went to EC yesterday specifically to work on my body position, but then I was having so much fun I just went round and round. I do this all the time :spank:
I also feel that part of the problem is the position of the rear sets (too far forward), but I might be wrong, maybe they have nothing to do with it.

Ahhh, I loved the 954! Raced one in America in the FX class on Erion Honda and full Ohlins front and rear suspension, lightweight wheels etc. Was an awesome bike.

I'm sure you'll love it when you get the hang of it. More time in the seat is the key.
Thanks mate, already loving it, the bike's putting me in my place for the moment, not the other way around. I'm not even used to positioning myself properly on the bike yet! Throttle control is a whole new game going from 60 to 140RWHP, braking points/times and lines are different too. Bitch gave me some decent headshake powering out of 12 in 2nd, next time around fed it on a little smoother (so I thought), and she lifted instead...I think I'm in love :lmao:

Yep, well customising the seating position works if it is going to make you feel more comfortable on the bike, especially when you're pretty big on it!

I ahev that same trouble when I test for AMCN - I go to the track to concentrate on what the bike's doing so I can write about it but get distracted by trying to go fast or just having fun!

Firstly and most importantly......Thanks Kat00, i know what efforts you goto to make sure us RATs are well looked after at EC :ayyy:

Track was cold, my slicks were fading and it started to rain in the arvo, but i still managed to hang on.Out of T2,5,7,9 & 12 the bike was power slidding wich is a new experiance for me and by the end of the day i was starting to enjoy it.The wear indacators on the slicks are almost gone on the edges, but there is still plenty of meat in the middle.I am still doing my constant 1:52's and i think once new rubber has gone on i might be able to reach the 49's (i might be dreaming)

Good to see all the RATs that came out to visit us OZR1 & son,David and his great, great grandson,GRL13,Kat00 and Falco

Jac's you'll keep mate................I know were you live :warning:

Mozzie and the boys from the mid-north coast, it's always a pleasure spending the day with you guys and i look forward to having a drink with you in Cowes for the GP's
