View Full Version : Alex Gobert's Road Race Performance Academy
Hey guys,
It's Alex here! I saw the post in another thread about the Road Race Performance Academy and thought I'd say hey and let you know if you havce any questions or anything then just fire them away and I'll answer them as soon as I can between my media work.
I actually came across this website through my stats page on rrpa.com.au, so thanks for the support and chacking out the program that I have been working on.
Feel free to give any suggestions on what you would like to see at RRPA as I'm always evolving the curriculum that I have developed and I can't wait to help riders advance their skill levels when the program begins at Wakefield on 10 September.
As the website says, RRPA is for all ability levels and each group (Beginner, Intermediate and Advanced) has a specially developed program so riders get the most out of the day.
In case you were wondering, Beginner is for inexperienced track riders and is a good place to come for riders who want to get comfortable before taking on a ride day, Intermediate is for regular ride day riders who are looking for that bit extra, and Advanced is a session for riders who are highly experienced ride day riders and are looking to really improve their riding or even race...current racers are also welcome and will learn a lot, I reckon.
Well just thought I'd introduce myself and let you know I'm happy to help out if anybody needs anything, and you can also keep an eye out in the next issue of AMCN for a rider tips column by me!
Thanks again, and like I said, feel free to let me know if there's anything in particular that you're looking from for a school!
Will also stick around the site and help out with bike advice or anything is anybody is thinking of getting a new one... looks like a good site to talk bikes!
Thanks,
Alex :ayyy:

Welcome, great to have you here, and look forward to your input aswell.
Thanks! It's a shame I only found RATs at this time through the stats on my site but I spend a bit of time on forums and really like the Aussie ones!

G'day Alex, welcome to RATS. Good luck with your new venture mate :ayyy:
Only 'suggestion' I can make is to have set drills or specific skills for the riders to work on. CSS does this succesfully, CB a little less so. But maybe you will do something altogether better.
(any truth to the story that you will be hiring out CBR1000RR to riders?)

Thanks mate... I like your Hannspree banner in the signature, looks trick!
Thanks for the input. Yep, believe me, there has been a heck of a lot of time (a few late deadlines at AMCN since I've been distracted by this program lol) put into the RRPA curriculum and the drills will all be specific to allow riders to get the most out of their day.
One coach will be in the pits for anybody to question during their pit break, I'll be in the class room, two regular coaches will be on track checking that everybody is doing the set program for the session and a guest coach will spend a bit of time in the class room, in the pits, and on the bike with the groups (and riding accordingly)!
RRPA coaches will all be on the same page as we will be training to learn the curriculm of the program like the back of our hands - if session one of the day is to teach body position, we'll all be focussing on that, if session five is for braking, we will all be focusing on that, including the coaches on the bikes!
They will be up close to keep an eye out on everything and report back to us coaches in the pits and the class room to let us know how it's going. They'll also single out the riders for a private chat if they need extra attention etc.
We'll all be working toward the same goal, so hopefully riders will be pleased with the outcome and go home happy (and improved riders)!
All of the coaches will also be doing a demo at lunch time for a bit of entertainment, including me. I couldn't go to a track without riding ha.
As for the CBR1000RR hire bikes, that is something we will look at for the future but for now we will be focussing on the program and move from there. SInce it's a national program it's kind of hard to take enough bikes around, but it is in my future plans for sure, as well as CBR600s of course!
Thanks again for the input - every bit counts and I really will be using it to help make it good for participants.

Hi Alex.
Good choice of Instructor bike BTW....... and its always great when guys in the industry go that bit further and join these forums in their own busy lifes...Thanks
With todays technology, I've always wondered why we can't have a camera mounted on the instructors bike and have him follow each student for one lap....Come into the pits and watch a lap for each of the 6 students he's instructing. (yep, thats 20 mins of footage) but as someone that gets told about my body positioning (or lack of), I "think i'm doing it, but to actually see what is really going on may get riders past that static point that affect the masses of track day punters.
Couldnt do everyone but this could be a group taken out at lunch (same timeslot as when CB do their race starts etc etc).... maybe not for everyone and you could charge an extra 10-20 bucks for this extra tutoring, but worth considering.
Also as an ex road instructor having do ride in a certain fashion (so the students could see what they should be doing) and then be watching closly in my mirrors to see what they were doing wrong, the instructors are trying to remember all the things "bobby" did wrong then tell him 15 minutes later when "bobby" cant remember the intersection your talking about... With the advent of headsets, where we could talk them through a situation (in real time) or give advise could also be used as a good tool for the track as well.
Finally, it people are put in groups, a colour code for each group on front and back of bike can also be a bonus.... been there and done that where suddenly the groups get mixed up and the guy your following tags onto the back of wrong group/instructor (must be confusing for the instructor as well when he loks back mid straightaway and sees a gaggle of learners and pointing at one that isnt one of his....)
Sorry for grammer...but this was a distraction on way to work.....

G'day Alex & welcome to the site mate.
I think everyone will be happy to see another rider training outfit on the scene. A bit of competition can only improve the situation for us riders hey?
Good move joining up here mate. A great tool for measuring the market & finding what the customers like & dislike.
I would imagine you are pretty busy right now so I will wait till a later to date to bombard you with questions.

Thaks for the advice mate. All good points and I will look into them and see what we can do.
We might not be able to have these features at the start but I'll deffinitely look for a way where we can do something along those lines - not so much the headsets for certain reasons, but the camera things sounds great if we can get a good format for it.
Thanks for the welcome and yep, real happy to have Honda at RRPA too! Love the new Fireblade!
Thanks,
Alex

Hi Nick,
We wont be at St Ives mate, actually have never seen that place so not sure what it is! Is that the place where HART is held?
RRPA will be at circuits around the country in all states. As far as NSW goes it will be Wakefield and Oran Park - no Eastern Creek.
Thanks for your enquiry!

Yeah I'm glad I found RATS because it sounds like all of you guys have a lot of experience to help make the program run better. There has been a lot of work put in so RRPA runs well from the start, but it's always nice to get other opinions.
Feel free to have a look at www.rrpa.com.au if you want to find out more info, or ask away!

I like the flip flop. I spoke to one of the marshall's there & he showed me a faster line through there. Apparently you just need to stay on the black stuff & maintain control of the motorcycle at all times.
Found this really helped me :D

Hi Alex and welcome to rats
Couple Questions
Are you going to be using timing at the schools ??
I'm also interested in the school day on the 20/10 at oran park but I see you have it listed as the south circuit, being that I'll be racing on the 26th with st george would liked to have seen it for the gp circuit what is the reason for using the south circuit?

Hi mate, and thanks. The reason for the use of the South Circuit is because RRPA was originally intended to begin in 2009, but as everything has come together quickly with great support, we felt that it could be released up to the high standard that we want it to be in September with one event a year to round out the year.
Circuit dates have only just been booked in the past month, so the South Circuit was all RRPA could get for the month of October. I guess there is something running on the other part of the circuit.
We will not be using timing at the schools because I personally would rather riders concentrate on their riding without the pressure of going for a fast lap on the day. When I raced AMA with Honda, the first day of private testing was always non-timed so we could concentrate on our riding etc before the stopwatch came out.
Feel free to have a mate or somebody time though if that is what you're looking for. I think with the curriculum that will be put forward at RRPA in whatever session you may choose, your lap times will improve on many circuits, including both the South and GP Circuit.
This day is also after the final round of the ASC at Eastern Creek so to make up for the lack of the GP circuit I may be able to get some extra guest coaches for this one. :ayyy:
I actually don't mind the South Circuit myself and look forward to coaching and riding on it, but I do understand your need for the GP circuit if you'll be racing there.
Thanks, hope this helps!
Alex

Thanks mate. Hope it goes well and people enjoy it - that would be greatly satisfying along with my media duties! I just love bikes lol.
