View Full Version : Wakefield week day track hire?

Has Rats have the powers to be thought about hiring out Wakefield Park for a week day track day.
To hire track with ambo for hole day is about 3.5K (no timing wink wink) which works out very good value with just 30 people. The advantage of doing this is track time & riding only with people your used to doing track days with. 3 groups with 10 odd people gets you allot more track time than doing ride days.
Wakefield staff are very good & relaxed & so long as people use there brains you don't even see them & you only need one flag marshal at start finish line which has view complete track. Has to be a week day due to cost & when track aval.
I arranged one late last year with 35 people 3 groups & so far is best track day I have ever had. You can go out when not your group if you want, to help out less skilled people etc, remember you are only group of people there so you make the rules.
Powers to be ?
idd be up for that but need notice with a date. so i can organise day off and crap

yeh we have considered it a few times, and actually looked into a weekend hire of the track. but the earliest weekend hire we could get was sometime in 2008!!!
i would love to do a weekday hire, but i just dont know if we would get the numbers to make it feasable. people have to take holidays etc to do it and it could be a problem.
so post up if ya could do a weekday trackday...

You only need to have a day off work (sicky hehe) it's only 2hrs out of Sydney it's a long day but if you trailer your bike it's not bad at all. It takes me 1hr in traffic in the morning to get into the city so you just leave 1hr earlier.
Just for an example OP 4th we got 4 sesions of 15 mins, thats only 1hr track time for $120. Wakefield with 3 groups & doing some extra with low numbers in groups I had 3hrs on track for under $120 if you have Wakefield lic already.

we were looing at doing it with Illawarra riders though the numbers were just on the skinny side to be safe. This was before a few more of the guys did their first trackday. What we were looking at doing was making it a proper trackday with groupings for each persons ability (A,B,C) though keep it on a very relaxed basis. Our aim was to have a lot of guys / girls who had never done a track day get out & experience how much fun they are, but also be able to have their family there too.
Between the 2 forums, of which some of us are members of both, I am sure we could get the numbers required to keep it very doable for those on a tight budget.
I spoke to Gary (track manager) last time I was up there & they were changing the pricing for the new year. There is also the issue of the new owners & what there plans are. A few of us are going up on the 21st Feb (Wednesday) I will take some time to sit down & get a proper quote with all requirements that the new owners would like. Its getting a bit late to do it this season before winter & Wakefield is not the place to be during winter so I will look for a Friday / Monday some time in October (though the GP is on at PI so might be a bit hard), November, December.

Come on down to Canberraish way! Wakefield park is 1 hour north of Canberra, or 2 hours south of Sydney. Its a fun track, tighter and shorter than Oran.
I'm definately up for it :D
Maybe some people would like to venture futher down south and actually visit Canberra for once... especially if you haven't been in the past 15 years or so! We've done alot since then - we've repaved some roads and make them double lanes... and planted more trees! So much more to see! lol

I arranged a day OCT 06 on a wend with OZVFR at Wakefield & due to needing 30 odd people we had allot of ring ins. I think 1/2 the people there didn't know each other at first but did by the end of the day. Relaxed is what happens on a day like this & because you have booked the track you make all the rules regarding groups & track time. We had 35 people & used 3 groups starting with 30min sessions but people found 30mins to be to long with how demanding Wakefield is to ride (very close to same as OP).
20min sessions are the go & by the end of day we just opened up the track to anyone as most had just had enough riding for the day. Due to group numbers low you can have people go out to help others out etc so works out to be a very fun day & because you can see all track from pit straight marsaling is easy.
Requirements are track fee, ambo for safety & the extra cost of Wakefielf lic if you don't have one, but they are valid for 12 months so on there ride days you can use. No timing because it costs allot more due to the insurance issue.
I left Syd 6am & was at track with enough time to get sorted & was home 8pm so for most a normal work day except you go home with a smile not a frown.
The weather the way it is seasons mean nothing anymore & Wakefield weather is very unpredictable even with a forecast so think there is still few months left before it's colder there than your freezer. There is also canteen there which they have staffed on the day.
Anyway food for thought & yes all might change with new owners.

What like a 30 or 40 lap race of Wakefield Pk for RATs members? Maybe an endurance race with 2 or 3 riders? Kinda like the Wakefield 5 hour? Hook up with a few mates & lap as fast as we can?
Sounds good. Do we need a race license? Does in need to be sanctioned by MA? If its a RATs day we dont need MA approval for any of it, do we ?

i think we still need a licence but im not sure....i think the gp is a great idea to. 2 hour endurance race before lunch or sumthin!!!
we can work out the finer details like licence etc if we get enuf interest....remember everyone, this can only be done on a weekday, so time off work is needed...cant get a weekend until way in next year sometime!!!

Gotta be careful with the sickies. Would'nt want to waste one on being sick. No they are specifically for hangovers & trackdays! Its a lot harder to convince the missus than the boss. ( No offence Kat00's Boss).
We all know who the real boss is:lmao:
What's a Wakefield licence?
What's it cost?
I'd be in for a weekday, as long as we had a couple of months notice!

I could possibly be in .... in other words, I'd love to but not sure at this stage. Need some more details as to what day, cost, etc.
Prefer a Friday or Monday if that helps.
Cheers, :-)

If you already have a race lic you don't need a Wakefield lic, otherwise you need a Wakefield lic to ride on there track which covers them insurance wise. The cost is $40 just for lic but it lasts 12 months & if you do a ride day there within that 12 months it''s then cheaper. Unlike EC or OP where your lic only lasts the 1 day & costs you every time (that little bit of white paper in booklet you fill out).
haha 2hr endurance race don't think so, 1 rider unless race fit is very tired after 30mins & after that is when your likely to make a mistake.
As for costs late oct 06 it cost under $140 which included Wakefield lic, for 35 people :-)

Wakefield would suit the 400 down to the ground, more so than OP.
I find Wakefield to be a very flowing track even if it's very tight & do like it better than OP. People complain about the bumps but to me thats just part of riding & if you pick the right lines you don't notice any. It's better for smaller cc bikes due to not such a long straight like OP so when you ot someone through the corners there's less change there hp will kill you on the straight so you have to do it all again. This is where ride days shit me with no ot on the inside rule because there is to many people with hp that pass you on the straight but can't corner for shit.

Found some guys like that in A group (not too many though) at Oran Park on Sunday, just stick it up the inside or look them in the eye as you go around the outside of them. Aren't you on a VFR800??

weekdays are a maybe.. but a weekend WP could be an option for the rats session/group discussed elsewhere as im sure numbers do not need to be anywhere near as high as EC

were gonna try for a saturday booking at the track. and there will be plenty of warning...we have a tentative date of november 1st 2008!!!! theres no weekends left in 07, and they need heaps of notice to get one in 08...but this date depends on whether the racing will work around it or not!!
we will hopefully have confirmation before the end of this year...
soooo is that enuf warning for everyone!!!:D
