Those who have seen the Supersports from over night would have seen the serious accident involving Craig Jones who fell and was struck by Andrew Pitt.
Sadly news has been released that Craig Jones has passed away overnight as a result of these injuries.
SSP – CRAIG JONES DIES IN HOSPITAL
After the extremely serious injuries suffered in yesterday’s SuperSport race at Brands Hatch, Craig Jones sadly died in the night.
The British rider had suffered major head injury after a collision with a bike following him. Only the brilliant medical skills and promptness of the track doctors at Brands Hatch had made it possible to resuscitate him (for as many as 4 times) at the circuit medical centre.
Craig reached the London Royal Hospital trauma centre in extremely critical conditions and died a few hours later.

:( I'm at a loss to express how bad that news is having been following supersport as is my fav racing & Craig Jones was my fav rider because he was so entertaining to watch. Pitt will also be shattered but if you saw the race you will know there was nothing humanly passable he could have done to miss Craig (looked to me his front wheel hit Craig helmet). Gardener had a similar thing happen when he struck a rider & he nearly gave up racing over it but that racer lived so you can't imagine the state Pitt is in.
RIP Craig Jones

can you imagine the next time pitt is following another racer, and he crashes in front of andrew?? there will be flashbacks, memories... I hope Pitty gets some counselling for this, it can ruin a person, racer or not.

My first thoughts where, hope he doesnt give racing away over it, having not watched the race, and going only by comments made here, if there was nothing he could do, then there was nothing he could do, So hope that helps him knwing that, either way, he must be going through hell :(

Wayne Gardener did the same thing early on in his GP career, I can't quite remember the rider or the race (I think it was in Australia), but the rider fell, crawled up to get off the track and Wayne hit him square on the head.
It was very tough for Wayne, as I am sure it will be for Andrew Pitt.

Rider was Franco Uncini who was at that time the World Champion (from memory) who highsided out of a right hander at Assen. All riders went right but Gardner could not and went left at the same time as Uncini started to crawl off the track. Sickening impact.
As others have said, full best wishes and condolences to all family, friends, colleagues and competitors of Craig Jones.
Special thoughts to Pitt who I seriously and sincerely hope seeks any assistance necessary and can continue on as there was absolutely nothing possible that he could have done to avoid the incident.

Terrible news. Sad for Jones, and bad for all that he left behind... RIP.
This race reminded me of the Assen round earlier in the year. Riders racing so close so fast it was scary to watch even through the box. Being the close competitive field that it is, sadly major injury is likely to occur. What can be done to prevent it???? Nothing! We all love the close racing, the riders love it, sponsors, ratings etc. Some rider's become heroes and some die for what they love.
RIP Craig....you certainly are an entertainer
Terrible news for the entire motorcycle industry, but what a great rider while he was here. As a world Superbike rider at an incredibly young age a couple of years ago with Foggy Petronas to the Supersport star he turned out to be with a bright future ahead of him, Craig had made many fans and friends in the paddock and around the world. A truly nice guy, incredibly sad day.
It's always terrbile to see fellow riders pass away, and the reality certainly hits home when it happens to one of the world's best. I'll never forget that spectacular riding style of his, truly awesome to watch and he will be missed deeply.

i feel asleep before the race re started under wet conditions.
it was a great race, so sad it ended the way it did.
i feel from watching that pitt couldnt of done anything and the initial hit that craig took with the ground was the main contributor to the sad end..

I sat up and watched the race as I always do, i felt sick watching it happen, even though he died later, i have never seen an accident quite like it the way he just fell down the track unconscious, it was very upsetting. I can't say how sad it makes me feel, does anyone know ir there is any official place to send condolances to the family?

Just looking at his website, too sad...
At least he was at home and his family could be with him, it would be worse if he was on the other side of the world
