2009 Aprilia Shiver. I don't know that they have done, I liked last year's model but this one looks crap IMO... I think it's the nose (it's the sport-touring version, based on the much nicer naked)

2009 Guzzi 1200 Sport 4V. This one I don't mind, well not nuts about those massive heads but that's Guzzi I guess.

C'mon Turtle, there's more than just sportbikes out there. I can appreciate machinery, even if it's notof my preferred 'genre'. I recall riding JdW's Guzzi Centauro, it was big, it was awkward, it was odd - but I had a smile from ear to ear :)

Forgot one pic

Funny , we're having a massive debate on the Guzzi owner's forum (don't laugh, it IS the other Italian V-twin !!) over the company's direction - or lack of - under the current Piaggio owners.

This historic marque, who have won more Grands Prix than any other brand last century, are left to flounder in a mish-mash of confusing and overlapping "cruiser-custom-tourer" models. It has no branding image to speak of, other than some also-ran trying to steal BMW's niche market.....

The 1200 Sport 8V is typical of Piaggio's decision making: Aging air-cooled engines, underpowered, in a heavy bike with lacklustre suspension (and still costing $23K!!). The sad reality is that Guzzi will never be allowed to return to their racing history; Piaggio's greatest fear is that it will canibalise sales from Aprilia (Piaggio's 'sports' brand).

Little wonder then, that instead of some ground-breaking v-tiwn sportbike (like the Le Mans series of the 70's) all Guzzi can offer us is the likes of this 1200 Sport.....

Nice pics J

The italians do have a unique style all of there own :), not my style likes all the time (like this time) but the world would be boring if all bikes looked the same.

A friend of mine just bought the 09 Shiver. It's his first bike. He hasn't received it yet though, so I don't know what it's like. I hope it's not crap as it's his first bike. Don't upset him if he comes out on next TNR. He's proud of his purchase.

The Shiver's an excellent commuter/mid-level naked. Like most Aprilias it's competent and 'funky' whilst not being particularly outstanding in any one particular area: I doubt your friend would be disappointed with having it as a first bike.

Aprilias are by far the most "Japanese" of the Italian brands in that they are (literally) designed by committee. There are no "visionaries" like Tamburini, Marabese or Galluzzi creating something special....Though that may well change with the advent of RSV4, looks very potent on specs and looks by anyone's measure.

PS - I note in the pic there's a tell-tale slotted disc within the front rotor - ABS or TC??

EDIT: just saw the shrouded box in front of the bellypan, and the steel tubes - definitely ABS

I'm a little more 'simple minded' than you mate .... I just read 'ABS' on the front fender :lmao:

--------------

Antonella, the one Aprilia at the start of this thread is the 'sport-touring' model, with the ugly front. The naked version (below) is a good looking bike IMO (yes, it is a little 'tranformerish') abd as far as I know the 09 is the same as the 08.

Can't say I'm a big fan of either of these bikes....but I'd have the Aprilia over the Guzzi any day!

The Guzzi look ridiculous from behind with it's torpedo exhaust and afterburner tail lights!

The Shiver's an excellent commuter/mid-level naked.

Gotta agree. I took one for a test ride and liked it. The engine and ergos make for a fun ride... almost motard like. With some sportier suspension, it would give a few sportsbike owners a shock in the twisties too.

More power to ya Aprilia !
