Thanks for the PM Vodka but at this stage it looks like we'll fall short of the magic number to qualify for the discount. :(
Regardless whether we get the discount or not I have the feeling Oran Park maybe quite bare, there's a major event being held at EC that weekend (Barry Sheene Memorial Race Weekend) and could mean a low turnout for the track day, which is good if you want to improve you're times.
I'll put you down on the list as a starter and see what happens during the week. I also got Jmuzz from IRA interested, he's indicated that he would like to attend and Kat00 is a possibility too. Sorry Zee.
I didn't get another chance to get back on the computer before going out there so i didn't see your reply.
It's been an awesome day though. One of the better track days I've had except for the delayed start this morning. And one of the few track days I've done without smashing my bike into an unrideable state within the first three sessions.
Gotta be happy with that.
Hope you guys all had a good day. I'll see you on the next one.
No worries dude....catch up next time :ayyy:
I have never seen Oran Park and the surrounding fields soooo green, even all the land to the Park is lusciously green. It reminded me of Europe (well, not quite) but it's so much better than the last couple of years we've been attending there. :)
The ride day didn't get off to the best of starts. Delayed by a balloon landing and then by the medical officer not turning up till 9.50am, when eventually the first riders got track time at 10 o'clock The facility was dirty with over flowing rubbish bins and the toilets.........well, too disgusting to describe.
A lot of debris on the circuit from the recent rain, washed plenty of dirty onto the circuit. I was surprised the organisers did not sweep the circuit by car. James will always do half a dozen laps first before any rider ventures out.
Went out eventually and completed the first 2 sessions somewhat disappointed. No where near reasonable times and very skatie. Didn't find my rhythm till the third session where I started to match my previous track day times. Got a little angry with an official when they cut our sessions short just after getting my eye in.
His response....lunch :wtf1: FFS
Not the biggest of turnouts by riders and made it for more clearer runs but still heaps of people riding out of their depth, such a miss-match of how fast riders really think they are as apposed to.......:headshake:
I finally managed to bet my personal best time by a second in the 6th session which says a lot for fitness :p . Normally I'm rooted at this time of the day, but I wanted to do more riding :) . There was one more scheduled run but the bike developed an engine noise on start up only :( I'm thinking starter clutch, but that's very unusual for this model. So we cut it short and called it a day. It began to play on my mind in that last session that "what if this thing seizes somewhere mid-corner" :eyecrazy: Better to quit while ahead with no damage to rider or machine but still managed to do my quickest time for the day....so couldn't of play to much influence ;) . Once we were home I stated the bike half a dozen times and the noise has disappeared F#%k I hate intermittent problems!
All in all, an interesting day to say the least........you should of been there :ayyy:

It was interesting to see how the late start from the first aid staff was handled. :doggy: What would they have done if she hadn't turned up at all for some reason? Just left us sitting there all day and then sent us home without any track time? Shouldn't there be a back up plan for these sorts of things? I don't see why the paying customer should suffer because the first aid staff have a hangover, or slept in, or ran out of fuel or whatever the hell happened.....
From memory Champion's have always struggled at OP, well, in the last couple I've done with'em anyway.
James definitely is more proactive and does a better job IMO :ayyy:

You raise some good questions Striker and to get answers to questions like these we need to establish diolouge with them so we can take our members concerns to them and ensure the problem doesn`t occur in future.
If that sought of thing happened with either ECRD or CB`s we would be on the phone to either Steve or James voicing our concerns and both them guys would listen and take action, as it stands we have no recall.
Its no ones fault from here but the events of today hilite the need that we need to have some arrangement with these guys.

Hey Guys, newbie here! Regular on Bikeme and old member of Trackdays.
I was one of the "officials" at the Oran Park trackday.
Let me provide an explanation of the "problems" of the day.
1. Dirty facilities....yep the owner operators, NOT Champions, didnt clean the toilets. Champs hire the track and they can rightly expect that the area is presented in a clean state...didnt happen.
2. Track dirty...yep right again AND we spent an hour sweeping the lumps of mud and rock from the track BEFORE 9 am. Seems the tyres had been shifted from one side to the other and the track NOT cleaned after. Once again NOT Champs fault. You may have noticed that I swept the approach to turn 1 between sessions. The rubber from the running of cars on the circuit is beyond anyones control. Oh By the way a few laps in a BMW dont equate to clearing the circuit!!
3. Ambos late. Yes they were. They thought that it was for the next day...shite happens...an honest mistake even though a careless one.
Contingency?...bet you didnt know that there was an Intensive Care Paramedic in attendance SPECIFICALLY in case of a disaster!!??
Ride Days or other event cannot run without the presence of an Ambulance and an Ambo with appropriate equipment...YOUR SAFETY
Striker...I think we may know each other...contact me if you wish to persue this issue further please! I would be interested to know who it was handled in relation to your graphic mate!
5.Due to the delayed start sessions were cut a bit short so that everyone got the required NUMBER of sessions. Not all were shortened. It is well known that in the event of an off, and/or a medical retrieval, delays can occur. There is only so much time in the hire (9 till 4.30) and you can only fit in a given amount of session of what ever time length in that time. The guy who complained that it took 3 laps to warm up his tyres may benefit from tyre warmers perhaps. You may note that we extended till 4.40 before finishing to give back some of the delay.
Also those who elect to ignore the red/chequered combination and grab an extra lap, steals some of everyones track time. Any of you guys guilty?
I had to call an extra briefing for the two groups who were guilty of this.
5. If you have a problem then SPEAK TO US!!! Scott invited you, in the compulsory briefing, to bring ANY concerns directly to himself, the start finish, or Nicole. One guy spoke to start finish line. Unfortunately his representation of the reply on this thread is inaccurate. It was explained that the session cutting was due to the delayed start.
I witnessed a lot of people thanking Scott and Nicole for a great day.
I hope that this post helps to explain some of the negatives expressed by your regulars.

So there is an explanation. Perhaps a little hostile considering Zee made reference to the state of the facilities and I made reference to the first aid staff being late, and you have agreed that:
1. the facilities were dirty
2. the track was dirty
3. the medical staff were late
4. the session times were reduced as a result.
In fact your posting claims nothing contrary to anything that Zee or I had said.
The track day postings on this forum always describe how the day went following completion. Zee's and my postings are no different and simply outline the day. I enjoyed my day, and have posted that in addition to anything negative that I wrote. Re-reading Zee's experience it seems he also had an enjoyable day overall.
I certainly have no reservations about attending future track days with Champions and would encourage anyone to do the same, but the fact remains that there were some problems on the day that someone (and not necessarily champions) should/must be accountable for. I hope Champions addresses these issues, as it is inevitably their reputation that is tarnished when incidents like this occur.
"Raise your concerns with the officials" What would that achieved???
You say you cut session's because of delays but yet you stop for lunch????
4 laps is less than half a session....are you going to supply warmers??
Cleaned the circuit....interesting. Yes I witness broom sweeping tarmac but by the third session I'm still getting hit in the face with dirt, not to mention the objects what looked like bolts lying on the straight which I think that was another rider that jumped the barrier to remove them. Cans, bottles, paper rolling down pit lane....yet you say you're concerned for our safety, Mmmm.
My Summary of the day
Arrive 7.30am
Witness dirty facility
Witness dirty track
Witness an attempt to clean the circuit
Very late start 10.00am
To make up for it you shorten every ones sessions :ayyy: Just from hearing comments made by other riders the attitude is they rather less sessions with more laps. I agree.
Running late, but please don't sacrifice your time, let the paying riders do that. :ayyy:
There's a picture of me below, did you witness me taking extra laps????
Don't paint me as stealing other rider's time, I obey the officials directions..........but I can't blame the guys that didn't.
But do want to know the real difference......James is approachable. He takes the time to say G'day. I don't know James and he wouldn't have a clue who I am but he says hello every time I'm there (+8 times) and asks how is my day. I've done, I think, that's my 4th or 5th with you guys and if it wasn't for the briefing, I wouldn't have a clue who runs its.
I tell it as I saw it and you can say whatever you like, make excuses, not our responsibility it's OP fault or the people before us. At the end of the day the riders pay you.........so, the buck stops with Champion's!

i was there on saturday.
i had a great day and certainly have no problems booking with champions again even though there were some issues.
my only real problem is that if you are going to shorten sessions then every group should be shortened or every group should lose a session.
no group out there paid any less money or any more money to be there than another group so if time needs to be caught up then we all should suffer.
It seemed that not all groups on the day were getting shorter sessions and that is unfair.
like i said though - i had a great day and i know my mates did too.

A couple of points guys. I heard of the posts from a friend . I read them and replied collectively to offer an explanation.
I wasnt trying to be hostile just factual and I wasnt disputing the content of what you posted.
Sorry if it came across that way.
Stiker, the who it was handled should have read how it was handled and you are not the guy I thought you were (someone from another forum different spell to nickname...sorry)
Zee, I didnt paint you as stealing laps simply stated that SOME riders did.
Im surprised though that you appear to condone it by this comment. "..........but I can't blame the guys that didn't. "
Mr Stompy,
All groups had some of their sessions cut short not just some groups. It may have appeared that way though.
If you would rather cut the number of sessions, and thats the feeling of the majority then let Scott know. Im sure he will do whats fair for everyone.
Scott IS approachable. I dont think anyone approached him the whole day. As I stated one rider approached the control point about the session time cuts. We did have a couple of suggestions re the cheq. flag (all polite mind!)
Im surprised that I didnt hear about the bolts though.
As to whether you are known to the crew as a regular rider I dont know. I am in Vic and that was the first time I've experienced Oran Park. I will say though that I know a lot of our regulars in Vic to say hi to! Scott is the same. Why not introduce yourself to the guys?
If your point is that the crew dont say hello to you when you sign on and during the day I am surprised indeed. Cant answer that one Zee!
Lunch is taken so the marshalls can have a break. More marshalls and a reliever type roster would solve that as the day could be continuous however are there sufficient people to marshall?
I'm pleased that you did have an enjoyable day in spite of the hassles. Once again I apologise if I have come across the wrong way.
Im also glad you have made those comments though because if we dont know whats wrong we cant try to fix it.
Cheers

I wasnt at this particular day so cant comment on the details. I can say though Ive been to a number of days run by a variety of operators. I dont think it serves any purpose to compare operators on a personal level because I have pretty strong opinions about one which, if expressed, would probably see my post deleted:headshake:
My experience with Champions has always been very positive and Ive found communication with Scott and his crew to be very easy. They have always made time to discuss problems and Ive seen Scott seek out riders to ask them how their day went.
Id have no hesitation in returning to any Champions day.Its a shame they dont get to do more days in NSW as I find it difficult to get to Vic very often.Still got to get a couple more stamps on my card for a free one:ayyy: .If this one wasnt perfect well it happens sometimes. Ive been to ride days operated by others that also have had problems. It doesnt mean you shouldnt bring this stuff up, as John said its the only way to improve, but lets not throw the baby out with the bath water.
