Well i was convinced by my father to enter this event as i am keen to give racing a crack next year..

Well having never raced i had no idea what to expect.. All i can say if you thinking about it DONT!!! DO IT you will love it..

Sat - heard a familiar name at briefing as a future clerk of course.. jasonBW
Practice was up 1st, so my father went out and tried to learn the track etc, think he managed a 1.28, go easy he is 55yrs old. :lmao:
Next up was me for the 5 lapper sprint race.. 1st time on a grid, and i made a mistake before i even started, i lined up on the car numbers & found myself 15mtrs away from the last person.. :dohsmiley: Started 26th & got a good start and managed to fininsh 11th.. With a time of 1.13 on my old mans bike that is 18yrs old at a track that i have never been too...

Qualifing -- Our game plan was mainly for the 1hr, dad needed more time on the track so he was going to do 10mins and me 5min to get a half decent grid position, well all plans went out the window as the old man stopped with around 30secs to go in qualifing, so last it was for us in the 1hr.. :lmao:

Race 2 - Dads turn, well he gave his best and finished 22nd or 24th so not last so all good.. His times dropped & he got more confident..

Sunday Race 3 - I had a crack this time and started in the correct position :mod_smilie_rockwoot Started at 22nd and finished 10th with again a 1.13.. Held back a bit as it was crazy at T1 & T2, T3... Sprint races are cool but crazy

1hr event - I was starting and doing the 1st 20min & last 20min to try to make up lost time with dad in the middle... Well wasnt this interesting dad lined me up 15mtr away from the nearest bike and the grid mashalls didnt move me up either, Le Mans starts are a adrenalin rush 29 guys running to there bike and then all hell breaks lose.. T2 i found myself in 17th and feeling pumped, after around 5 laps i was in 10th and chasing the lead group & still comfortably on the lead lap, lap 13 & i was about to pounce on 9th place when i went to snick into 3rd gear but there wasnt a gear lever there.. The lever broke at weld cause we needed to extend it back with for the rearsets.. I held my position for 3 laps in 2nd gear though... A quick pit stop and some coat hanger and the oxy the old man was back out.. We finished the race but found out later the we were a DNF because we didnt complete 75% of the race..

Final race - i was determined to do better, started 10th and finished 5th, the guys in front were A grade riders so i was pretty happy with that..

Great weekend that ran really well with only a few incidents, stewart had a heart attack, 1 racer crashed and wasnt breathing (all ok) another bent his collar bone, yes bent it was a replacement metal collar bone...

If you are thinking of racing, just do it...

Must be a buzz having your old man with you.

First time and more than respectable results, I can see a future in racing coming.

Well done, both of you :ayyy:

Awesome read. Glad you had fun.

How did you handle going into turn 1 for the first time with all the other riders so close. Thats one of my biggest concerns next year.

That bike was you ?????? Fantastic, we were looking at your bike, comments like that was the best looking bike of the day!!! Was your dad wearing the fluro? SO good to see him out there having a go, can't wait till next year when I get my first grid line up adrenalin shot.

Oxy in the pits fixing a gear lever! HA Great stuff, your laptimes sound tops too! Well done!!!!

Yeah that was me and the old man... Took the gear lever of the bike, took it over to the truck and fusion welded it back on, i swear welding took less than the arguing, it was a 5min weld that stayed like that for the rest of the meet.. Bodgy but worked, we going to get the linkage spun up on the lathe and get a proper one.. As for lap times, i just got in a comfortable groove and noticed the lead group slowing a bit when it snaped..:cursing:
Always next year...

Mate that was mine as well, you just deal with it.. Personally after the 1st race i was looking foward to it.. Slightly hoping there would be a bingle to watch :lmao:... If you ride in A grade at track days and feel fine you will be alright

Thank's graham,
The photo of me in the pit asleep is funny, because a little kid saw me asleep and got his dad to check to see if I was not dead.
