Hey guys and girls just wondering about this E Tag thingy i have just ordered one as i am forever going over the bridge, any sport bikers have one? , if so how have you fitted it to the bike?? and where?? i wanted to get an arm band but i have a white leather jacket and dont want to mark it.
Mind you i dont want to stick one to my bike either but looks like i have no choice.

i use a backpack every day carrying my laptop etc - i fitted a pouch onto one of the shoulder straps and stick the little bugger in there.

Also i find once your plate is registered to a tag you can ride where ever you like and it "should be" automatically be deducted from your etag account.

There are also products that have been made - i remeber seeing a different one that had a handle bar attachment - may have been AMCN - cant remember but there is this one as well

http://www.motorcyclee-tag.com.au/products/bags.php

Also if you get a RTA etag you can apply for the bridge concession which works out at 90 a quarter unlimited crossings - specifc to the harbour bridge only - find out more on RTA website

My bike has a E tag attachment fixed on the inside of my screen. Have no idea where to get it though as the bike came like that.

I had the removable mount (as in half the mount stays behind and tag goes with you) on my Across, but its screen has a fairly flat area at the top. I can't do this on the Gixer so the tag lives in the tank bag map pouch. Just have to be careful approaching boom gates as the reader doesn't pick it up until your right under the reader, no dramas otherwise. Best bit, when tank bag comes off the tag is already in it. I just have the tag cello taped to the pouch clear panel to stop it moving. Alternatively just pop a mono though the toll gates, unfortunately I suck at monos and am more likely to spend more fixing the bike than tolls would have cost me.

You don't need the etag on the bike. What you do is you get the etag and add your bike's rego to the account. When you go over the toll booth they take a photo of you and match your license plate against the account. It's free service for bikes. I've been doing that for 1 year now and I never had any issues with any toll in sydney (M2, M4, M5, bridge and tunnel).

That's right. Bikes do not need to pay etag tolls. A cheaper alternative is simply reaching behind you and deftly concealing your numberplate from the all seeing, all knowing cameras.. No, that's definitely the wrong thing to do!

I have mine taped in between the windscreen and the front light / behind the dash. Seems to work most of the time.

i use to wear the tag around my neck like a necklace when M4 was been upgraded at the tolls (need it for boom gates) but now i just ride through as my rego is attached to my tag as the guys/girls suggest above

I have spoken to the RTA today regarding my e-tag. They say that if your tag does not work 95% of the time they will marry it to your number plate and deduct it automatically. This has to be done manually so if it keeps happening you may start to receive account charges.

RTA do not have a solution for bikes as yet, but did say they are working closely with some bike group on this matter.

Having the tag in your pocket does work. The only reason for the warnings in cars is that some European cars have a metal strip at the top of the windscreen which affects the reading of the card. Clothing should not be a problem.

I went through today with my new tag in my leather jacket and seemed to have worked for me.

I don't carry one i use the m5 all the time and have never had an issue. If i use the bridge i wait for a fine then give my e tag number to them and they just deduct it. I have asked them why it didn't work (knowing i didnt have one) and they say sometime environmental factors!!!!
Or just ride close behind a car, you dont have to be super close, 1-2 bike lengths. I do that on the estern distributor because its a rip off. Ive never had a problem. Only thing is, you have to remember to do it.

As long as the tag is registered to your bike you don't have to carry it.....I never have!

Let those rip off pricks at the RTA do some work for their money!

There is no need for the motorcycle council to do anything as you don't need to carry it when it's registered to your bike , car etc.

My point exactly, but hey, why not spend four years trying anyhow, its not like theres any other real issues to fight, hang on they have, we can now park in the city :lmao:
Im sorry, after having met Guy, sat down and spoken to him ( with other riders aswell), for him to agree with what was said, then to turn around and do the total opposite (could not have been anymore opposite to what was agreed on if you tried), safe to say that I dont hold him in high regards at all, matter of fact, I could quite easily call him a wanker.

+1, no problems whatsoever... I even claim M4 and M5 cashback with the statements... Sometimes they send a toll notice to my place for M7 because the Tag didn't work all the times, then you need to call and ask them to charge in your account... but it only happens with my car.

Don't carry one. Don't pay toll notices. I gotta stack 100+ and never heard a peep.

Frankly the notices are so slow to arrive, and as I don't keep a log book, I cannot verify their claims. So should fines ever arrive for non-payment of tolls, I will pay them the moment they can provide photographs for them. And probably bill them for the manual processing at my end.

Forget about it. :dancesmiley:

sounds good i dont think ill carry it, and i would even think of sticking it to my bike not only is it ugly but it may scratch the paint as well. plus i wear a white jacket so i wont be using an arm band. beside i am forever changing jacket.
Mmmmmm should need one on my bike any ways i mean what effect does my bike have on the road??? i think not much.
When they charge your account when you tag doesnt work do they charge the usual $10 fee??

18-12-2008, 08:17 PM
nope, i never carry my tag, i have also rang the rta, bloke said nah chuck it in ya backpack or boot of bike and be on ya way...

i told him how we cant fix it to the windscreen as it 'impairs a motorcyclists vision, he said he has a bike and he biffs it in his bag!!

as for the $10 fee....
i was told that bikes get auto scanned every 2 weeks if there no. plate shows up they deduct the normal toll no extra fee,

oh and dont worry about notices in the mail for evading toll payment. you've slipped thru the system and will be picked up and charged the normal fee,
i have had 2 notices and same reply both times!!

Its the same when your at the shops or whatever .. the people in front are walking too slow, you are trying to pass, you cant, you get the shits, you pass without your blinker & think thank fck for that & zoom off to spend more money..

Im the same and I have a Roam account with my bike linked to it. I figure Ive done all I can if they cant automatically bill it to my account then they can come and chase me for it.

Riding the line and tailgating work only sometimes.

Pay the bond for the tag and leave it in a drawer at home, why should you find a solution to what is obviously their problem?

Boxer

For those using a tag on lane 4 on the bridge, check your statements, as a riding buddy of mine said that he was being double billed at the time they changed the tunnel booth. The scanners were picking up the tags in both lanes (each end of the bridge). This was about a month ago.

What a mess. Does anything work properly in NSW? :spank:

RTA admits Etags don't work on bikes (http://www.smh.com.au/news/national/rta-backs-down-on-etags-for-motorcyclists/2009/01/05/1231003937337.html)

The last line of the article is the clincher

Sydney toll roads are the only ones in Australia that charge bikes the same toll as cars.

Why is it that we already pay the highest of everything (taxes, petrol, rent, you name it) and they still don't have the decency to adopt a fair toll for motorcycles like every other state and territory in the country?

The tolls on our roads go up disproportionately to inflation yet they claim the motorways are to ease traffic congestion......I'd avoid the tolls just on principle.....just like I'll never use the cross city tunnel as it was one of the biggest cases of corruption and underhanded dealing this state has seen!

I can't see how it can be justified to restrict an existing public road so the only viable option is to take a privately run tolled motorway.......it absolutely stinks!

No way to escape it ... we're getting screwed.

And this is a little political, whilst I never did have much faith in our jet-setting PM I thought he might just be able to do something about the injustices of state relations (such as these) given country-wide Labour governments. But even that he couldn't do - more like he couldn't be bothered- and now one state is already Liberal so that's that.

You should try living on the Northern beaches; no new roads, no new spit bridge, plus they take away one whole lane (bus lane) but refuse to add any additional buses. Now they've cancelled the jetcat too, without a replacement.

I don't live there mate, I did for a few years but I'm just too rough for them and they kicked me out :lmao:

No-one feels for the poor people up there, but let me tell you they weren't all sivertails, the majority are just like everywhere else, lots of tradespeople and labourers, and if you have one wage you struggle to make it week by week just like everywhere else.

its funny you know we live inb the most populated state so we bring in more rev than any other, yet we pay the most for EVERYTHING!. yet all the systems are broken. Tolls, Public transport its all farrked. got to love this state.
Now i have to pay for something the owners even say dont work. on a bike that has little to no impact on the road.
