Did clubsport and 600's last year just doing clubsport this both where just too much when they ended up back to back races
Have a few things still to sort out after having a shocker at ec in the fx series this month
Looking at doing the ecrrs two weeks before as well

I want to have go at racing this year but still haven't found out which series to go in.
I went to watch the bears/fx racing the other weekend and talk to some competitors about times there running.
I don't wont to turn up and be a tail gunner. Any advice on classes to run in and bikes for sale would be appreciated.
Bears F2 class looks good but then the bike is limited to that series.

I will be racing in the St George.....1st year racing in Oz , learning the circuits etc and managed 2nd overall in clubsport on my r6 , came 9th i think in open 600 and came 8th overall in the club, had a fantastic time, great club to race with, very very friendly and approachable, good bunch of people racing too, cant recomend them enough.
I see James is looking at this thread, Hi James.....
Will be racing with James hopefully too, and we will see how we go....are you still running a clubsport class James ? What is the cut off year ? Will my old 2000 r6 be ok for your series ?

Anyone thinking of doing a Phillip Island day should seriously consider ECRS Sept 4th - 6th Phillip Island VIC*" Vic state title Rd 3". A very relaxed and enjoyable event which caters well for all levels, and includes clubsport classes. I've done the last couple and it makes for a great weekend away as well.

Was hoping to make round 1 at OP but not so keen.....well keen to do it, financially not so keen :)
Got a bit of much needed practice in mind and Race Logic booked so am looking at Rnd 27/28 june, bike clutch now sorted thanks to SFBGlen (really do need to change that username :D ) now going over the bike, removing the camera gear/wires, bought a bunch of split pins for the lock wire jobs > gotta bed in the new clutch so will take the bike to StuntSkills 15 May and also practice some race starts which I guess is hard to practice at a track day......(yes after giving the clutch a bit of time LOL)
Booked accomodation for 5/6/7 June for those track days...eagerly waiting to book 2 of the 3 track days though Jason mentioned the FX guys would be practising 8th so would be good to TRY and follow some of them but I don't know I can afford the full 3 days so hopefully a few show up on the sat/sun to have a blat :)
So Jason are we still racing to crack into the 1:38-9's somewhere? or have you already cracked it?? :D and if so can i see the data :D :D :lmao:

:D Had a ball.... absolute ball... never realised how much more fun a race day is than a trackday... no Clerk of Course guys yelling at you for close passing :), and above all you have a goal... on a trackday you circulate, big deal if a guy passes you... well in a race he then becomes a real target.. and it's a whole new world... so much fun.
Results.. I hit my laptime goal doing a 1:15.1 which was cool, I ended up getting a bloody trophy.. can you believe it! got 2nd place overall out of the D grade riders. The field was around 25 or so, but the best I managed was a 7th place... or was it 6th.. not sure.. but it was incredible.
I highly recommend anyone thinking trackdays are fun but missing something... just jump into racing at the enxt EC round and see how you take to the action.
I'm uploading a youtube video of the final race (6 laps of Oran park)... unbelieveable fun!

P.s. 2nd in the D grades (about 10-15 riders), the best overall finish out of the four races I could manage was 7th or 6th. There are still FAR faster riders out ther (and not out there!)

Thanks Captain, I can wait till have have a few more RATs out there. It's true that in racing you just simply drop 2 seconds off your time. It's great fun!
You know that feeling at a trackday when you hook up with a mate on track and you both just go for it... you pull into the pits yelling how that was the best fun... every race is like that.... amazing fun.... I got beaten after a dice with one guy, on the cool down lap he turns around and gives me a huge thumbs up then he punches the air... we were playing for 8th position... nowhere near a top spot, but god its so much fun no matter what place your going for! The guy didn't know me either... the club racing is just great fun with great people.

I agree, there are more than enough guys on this site who could race and not worry about there times........better not encourage too many of them though.......otherwise life could start to become even harder at the track :) kidding !!! guys and girls...just have a go.... you will love it, and the st gorge club is so friendly, cant get much better at club level :)
My opinion on crashing Captain, well for a start the riders who race are generally better equiped than those at track days re reactions and race craft so can be safer than people you meet at td's..... unless of course your battling at the pointy end and pushing limits then its up to you and what you are willing to risk. Donr forget there is much fun to be had battling for 10th or even 20th place too......

I don't race nor ride track days Captain, so by all means disregard any of my comments but having officiated at race meetings for a few years I can honestly say that serious injury or death is extremely rare. Yes it does occur just as it can riding on the road butin racing terms I woudl actually suggest that the risk of serious injury is actually reduced to that when riding on the road.
I say this as the old adage that a race track has room is correct and it is uncommon that a rider does actually impact a wall or other object and it is the impact that generally will cause the injury. Whilst I have seen riders hit walls (OP/EC) and whilst I have worked meetings where guys have been hospitalised for lengthy periods it is uncommon.
You also need to look att he fact that medical assistance is on hand and there are minimum requirements for those medical personnel which means that generally should an incident occur, highly trained people will be at your side within minutes.
IMO, in terms of injury risk racing is no more dangerous than road riding.

It was a hurdle for my missus too... there was a strict covenant about not racing set in concrete along with my balls. I figured 6 months ago there's no use living if she has that much control and booked in the race meet :D Now about my kids... well, I'd hate to do something that makes their life harder but I figure better I be a happy Dad who get's to do what he loves, then a grumpy dad on a viscous circle of depressing and repressing problems:D
Anyway, that aside, I was worried about that, until the whole environment felt jsut like a trackday... but friendlier and happier! (no joke)... actually theres some good info which I should start a new thread on.. I'll write it up tonight... suffice to say... it's worth the (mostly controllable) risk.
Captain
10-05-2009, 09:35 PM
Garry if you've been there, you've seen it so your advice is more than valid. I agree 100% re track being safer than on the road, for sure this is where I prefer to go fast, without a doubt. I meant the safety of track days v. racing.
Jason, thanks for that also. Each to their own of course, sometimes I can't believe that I'm actually taking the bike to a track, having so much fun, more than I ever imagined and sure, I'm interested in racing but I have a fortunate life, so many interesting things to do so that IF I don't get to racing, well, it's not like I haven't reached my life-long dream and sink into depression.
Curious about the 'friendlier and happier' comments too. Any idea why? Jeezus, how can you not be happy on a track day? Looking forward to your promised 'write up' :ayyy:

:D Going to start it now, just really want those who aren't reading the racing thread to want to dive in. Mate you'd be alarmed at how you can pretty much choose your risk level!
While I'm yakking have a look at the last race of the day - there are 4 races, each one determines your next grid position, man my starts were horrendous each race which made for some great experience passing riders.
Heres the video from Saturday. (Crap quality, now uploading a better version (brighter and higher quality).

EDIT: Cheers Gaz!!! :)
JB must correct you there . YOU were not racing for 8th you were racing for position in your class.CONGRATS. If you were a bit earlier(a few years or 2) you would have been in your own race , D grade yoost to have there own ding dong . I remember the 1st meeting every year we all yoost to file to the top of the pits at the creek and watch the Novice race . 2 lap dash. fukin awsome.

So if enough join up then we'll have a D grade race again :D sweeeet.
Thanks for letting me through in that last race (in the video), that let me challenge the other guy for 7th spot.
P.s. I've a lotta work to do, the next highest D grader was 10 seconds in front of me after just those 6 laps! I've officially been smoked! :D :D :D Awesome day!

Ditto to all the good comments. A great day.
Stu, I love club racing as well! A great environment for us to have an adrenalin shot and experience some competition.
Captain, never met you but I can tell you that racing is safer than track days in one important respect......qualifying ensures that you're gridded with guys who are the same speed as you rather than sharing track with guys who may be alot faster/reckless on track days. You can spend years doing track days but as jasonbw has said, a race will pick your times up.
Cheers
