ok people. lets start planning this asap...im thinking ill take 1 or 2 weeks off at the start of march, and head to melbourne for the superbikes, and then a couple track days with rumblestrip. this is providing i have no training at work, or im not gonna be able to take the time off.
so soon as the ride day dates come up, lets start a thread for interest, and book a track day there asap....we need 15 to get the discount, and i think the discounted price is around 160. the full price is over 200 so lets get 15 aye!!!
so whos in...somewhere between march 2nd and 16th...07...

Excellent guys....and thanks for the hotel recommendation Kat00. Also got a couple of other hotels and motels from some other OZ friends I have ridden with at Bira. Guess some of you have heard of Arthur Phillip Motel, Quest Apartments ............and they also mentioned the Waves Hotel. Looks nive BTW.

As soon as the dates are up on the site I will be booking both CS school and ride days. Hope to have time for at least a day at the Creek too before heading for Thailand.

Whats the weather like in March? Hot or?

Cheers

Yep, March is still fairly hot. Damn you guys and your holidays :( boo hoo.

Kat00
28-11-2006, 09:52 PM
HaHaHa PI it could snow rain or be 40 deg C most likely a combiation of all of them all. Very, Very unpredictable in Victoria at any time of the year.

EC on the other hand in March 8 degC early morning 25degC during the day.

March in Sydney is no doubt the best time of the year.

Rumblestrip
29-11-2006, 12:06 AM
OK guys, I have now booked the following dates at PI:

- Afterburner ride day on March 5th
- Level 1 at the school on March 6th & level 2 on March 7th
- Ride day on March 8th

Do you know if they use the same rent bikes for the ride day as for the school?

I think I will stay either at the Arthur Phillip Motel or the Quest.

This will be a good week mates :ayyy:

Kat00

No specfic date set yet Narve on the fishing trip but we are planing a 1-2 night stay on a houseboat on a river called The Hawkesbury River.
50 Kilometers out of Sydney.

It is a magnificant place, if you like drinking , talking shit and generally misbehaving you will have a good time.

But no mention of the 5/03/07 ?

Just received a mail from telling me the March 5th date was up on the site by mistake. They will definately run it, but for some reason they are not allowed by PI organizers to take bookings before January.
They call it an Afterburner day and they said it was not an ordinary ride day..........what they ment by that I don't know.

Kat00
02-12-2006, 07:00 PM
Well, we will have to play it by ear for the time being Rumble until your dates are set in stone.
But as I said before, I will be there for a ride day with ya, and so will Hatter, even if I have to kidnap him.

OK folks, the dates for my trip to PI are set.

I will be flying into Melbourne on Feb 28th and return to Thailand on March 12th.
There are no ride days at EC that fits in so it means I will be spending my time in the AUS at PI and in Melbourne.
I was hoping to have more time, but I need to get to Bira to assemble (has to be shipped in two separate shipments to avoid some custom fees) and set-up my K2 track bike.
I will do the ride day on March 5th (afterburner) CS school on 6th&7th and the last ride day on 8th.

Hope to meet you and some of you folks for a ride on PI...... and maybe a few

Cheers

we could drive down saturday, watch the race sunday, ride day mmonday...and maybe hang out tues and drive home wed or sumthin like that...
think id run out of things to do in melbourne if i spent the week there!!!

miramoto
13-12-2006, 08:02 PM

how long are the sydneites planing stayin down there?
where were ya gunna stay? my funds will be stretched with the track day and accommodation. If your gunna be there for 4-5 night+, maybe rent a house.

dungbeetle
13-12-2006, 08:36 PM
well maybe sat, sun, mon and tues nights i guess...
could prolly leave tues and only do 3 nights i guess...not really sure yet!!

Kat00
14-12-2006, 09:14 AM
Spoke to PI today and they said the reason why the 5th isn't listed on thier site is because no pricing for the day has been decided on yet.
But as Rumble has told us its a definate ride day date.

As soon as they put the date on thier website they will start to take bookings for the day and I will pay for my spot then.
That is going to be one hell of a good few days.:ayyy:

Renting a house sounds like the go. One with a back yard so we can put our track bikes out of sight :ayyy:

I just rang the owner, he is confirming availability with his partner will call me back tonight. Tis pretty cheap and doesnt look like a dive. $150 per night isnt too bad..

He said there is plenty of room in the back yard for trailers and its hidden from view. 5 mins from the track.

Would you guys stay in something like this?

dungbeetle
14-12-2006, 03:26 PM
fuk yeh mira...that is the perfect set up...and between 10 of us it is 15 bux a night!!!
post up guys are we keen...lets get it booked....

Bigdog
14-12-2006, 10:01 PM
I'm keen as and I reckon Falco wouldn't take too much prodding to go either. World Superbikes followed by our own little Rats Grand prix the next day, awesome.
Good stuff Miramoto, that sounds like the go.

MadHatter
15-12-2006, 09:39 PM
We'll stay anywhere, we're rats.
I'm happy this is finally coming together :D I just hope they don't jack the trackday price for that particular day.

15-12-2006, 09:41 PM
I just heard from a reliable source;) .. Of the few guys from cbr250.com who went to PI today, 8 came off!!

Kat00
15-12-2006, 09:50 PM
Ive see 20 come off in a day at the Creek

miramoto
16-12-2006, 09:21 AM
20 !!! Sessions would have taken forever to finish with that many red flags.
There were around 40 people from the cbr250 forum so, 8 isnt all that bad :p

The owner of the house said Its pretty much booked for us, but he'll need a bond deposit sometime soon. I'll go halvies with Al on this one..

dungbeetle
16-12-2006, 09:31 AM

dungbeetle
24-12-2006, 09:04 AM
the house will be booked next week so accom is organised....
everyone can buy their own wsbk tickets. but if we get the numbers we may be able to get a trackstar package for there....

Kat00
24-12-2006, 09:09 AM
Trackstars package would be a big ask.
We have to be really careful because when everybody realizes this track day is on, seeing it is the day after WSB, it will sell out real fast.
If we fuck around with a trackstar package, we are likely to miss out.

dungbeetle
24-12-2006, 09:48 AM
hmmm good point!!
ok maybe we should all book ourselves then...
do we know if this track day is available yet?
big thanx to mira to for doin the legwork to find this house...

Kat00
24-12-2006, 09:58 AM
Yeah Dungy, I spoke to them last week. The Monday is defiantly a goer.
They haven't posted it on their site because they are not sure how much they are going to charge. I don't think its them setting the price either. Its PI.
As soon as they post it. I`m booking.

MadHatter
24-12-2006, 02:47 PM

24-12-2006, 06:16 PM
just an idea....when traveling along the hume about 50kms before melbourne is a town called Broardford, they have a track for bikes (and dirt bikes also). since you have to go past this place to get to p.i., why not check it out. what do you all think?

MadHatter
24-12-2006, 06:29 PM

Mira, looking at the website there is still no mention of the Afterburner day. I will call them tomorrow to confirm the ride is on.

I emailed them last night Biggie with the very question:ayyy:

And if we can arrange a group buy Mira we will do it for sure but we don`t want to waste too much time with this because as soon as everyone reliases there is a trackday on after the WSB`s it will sell out in a flash.

MATTK6
08-01-2007, 06:34 PM

we got no times, and had 3 full sessions and 2 shortened sessions. but the track is awesome and ill be back...
on a sad note. one of our members, sin, he doesnt post but he comes to everything....he had a massive tank slapper between turns 2 and 3 and went straight into the tyre wall and high speed. he was shot over the top of the wall. we were told he was sitting up when the ambos got to him, but he was airlifted out and we are now unscertain of his condition. his bike is fukked bad but we will get it goin again!! we will try to see him at the hospital tomorrow so we will update....

Saw him in hospital this arvo, he needs surgery on his arm and finger.
Fuckkkkkk, that track is fast.
6 corners are about as fast as turn 1 at the Creek.
That track is unbelievable. Just after turn 10, WOT , knee on the deck for 300mtrs, hold it pinned for 11, roll off slightly for 12 and then its just a question of how big your ball are for the straight. Awesome.
Full report tomorrow. :ayyy:

Wow, what an incredible weekend from the long boring 12 hour drive to the awesome blasting around the best Track in Australia.
The accommodation was excellent with plenty of room for the 10 of us, the hot water even lasted all of our showers too.
I couldn't have asked for better company as everyone had a ball and there was plenty of  and :lmao:
The drunk attempted cow tipping at 1 am was funny as, damn cows turned out to be steers :omfg:
It was nice meeting Miramoto and Rumblestrip. Rumblestrip came all the way from Korea for the WSBK, Afterburner trackday and Superbike school. The Potato alcohol was very nice, thanks mate.:ayyy:
The Superbike racing was superb with Troy Bayliss taking out one race and James Toseland taking out the other. Man those guys can ride.
The track was something else, my bike has never gone so fast or shook it's head so much. Some of the corners are something else and you definately have to get your balls out to go fast here. My favourite corners were Southern Loop and Siberia, although the oil spill on Southern loop restricted your line a little. Everyone was riding well and judging by the smiles on their faces, were having a good time too. Unfortunately on the last session Sin had a pretty spectacular looking crash and ended up with a broken arm and finger. Here's hoping he has a speedy recovery.
Next time we go, hopefully this year, we will book into a regular trackday as the Afterburner day was a bit of a shambles and we were really lucky to get power for our warmers.
All in all it was a great time and I'm so bummed it's all over :(

I cant believe I made it through superbike school after all the drinks on monday night. You guys rock, please come back for another track day, cant wait until I visit the creek.

No worries Mira but we will have to see the "Pairy Fenguins" next time. :)

Yep, Biggie got it right.
The house we stayed in was outstanding and a big thanks to Mira for arranging that for us. There was some incredibly funny moments in that house. On Saturday night, I laughed so much, I didn't think I could take anymore.
The WSBs on Sunday were incredible, those guys are so fast, whatever they get paid, they deserve every cent. As mentioned before, the track is sooooo fast. It is in fact, the fastest track on the MotoGP & WSB calender.
Anyone thinking about going down to PI for a ride, don't waste your time going on an afterburners ride. Its a shit fight, best we could have hoped for was 5 sessions, as it turned out we got 3 full sessions. The first session was marred by a major oil spill, (got 2 laps), the last was shortened by Sins crash.(1 lap)
Of course neither of these sessions were the operators fault.
The orginising still left plenty to be desired. No pits, no power, registration took for ever, no grading whatsoever, had to dodge Harleys and extremely slow riders, regardless of what group you were in. The track is huge and you never get held up for very long though.
BIG WORD OF WARNING. If you don`t hold a road licence, you can't ride at PI.

I had big, big moment in the first session, A riders sump plug let go and I found the slick on the apex of T2, the bike got completely sideways :wtf1: and I am amazed I kept it up, a 61 year old rider on a K6 gixxer thou bit the dust behind me and was carted off to hospital. Took over an hour to clean the mess up.
Next session was really the first time we got to have a look at the track and me and Hatter were doing 1:55s, don`t know any other times for the day but Hatter & Biggie were going pretty quick,I was staying with them but couldn`t close the gap.

Turns 1 & 2 are brilliant and you could overtake at will there and the best method was to go around the outside in turn one and then switch to the outside again to clean the next bloke up just before tipping into T2 left hander :lmao:
Turn 3 is just so fast. WOT, stand it up and your at the 150mtr marker, it caught Falco and Biggie out :lmao:
T5, go around the outside or shove it up the inside, take you pick.
6 & 7 WOT, Right at the top of Lukey Heights there is a funny little part were you tip in just a little bit more to complete the corner and a million ride day guys must come to grief there. The immediate enty into T9 reminds me very much of the entry of T9 at the Creek but its a much shorter approach and the corer itself squares much more than T9 at the Creek. After T10 its spectacular, plant your knee on the deck and go as fast as your balls will allow through 11 & 12, onto the staright and hold on. :2191:

Been talking to Rumblestrip on GDC for a few years and it was unreal catching up to him. Like Biggie said, he came across from South Korea for a weeks riding at PI and he was suitably impressed and he promises when he starts work in Vietnam he will fly down to join us for some rides at the Creek.

I will definatly make the trip down south again but it will be for a normal ride day, not an after burners ride. I absolutely love the track.
Sin will be OK, I spoke to him on the phone in hospital on Sunday night.
He`d been flown to hospital a few hours earlier and typically, his only concern was "Hows my bike"

On a side note, man it is dry down south. Everything we saw down there was just about tinder dry.
Gundagai reminded me of what I`d imagine the moon to be like, in parts completely baron and in places red soil exposed with no vegetation at all. The Murrumbidgee River is flowing but only just by the looks of things, all the creeks flowing into it have dried up and couldn't help feeling incredibly sorry for the people down there.

All in all it was a fantastic few days, a little sad its all over.
Thanks for such a great time everyone.
When are we going again?

Spoke to Sin last night, he should be out some time tomorrow.
Surgery on 2 fingers and a cast for the wrist although not allowed to fly due to some kind of chest complications that my be an issue with altitude so he has opted for the train instead.
Im guessing Dungy, you should be expecting a call regarding the full extent of the damage to his bike as it was played down a bit on the visit in hospital.
Anyways this bloke is as tough as they come and should be back on track in no time.
heres to ya budd.....:ayyy:

ok spoke to sin again today...he got home this morning and his mum was stoked to see him. he is a little worried about his collar bone tho cause it is hurting and he thinks he may have cracked that to!! he has steel wire sticking out of his finger and he has an appointment with a plastic surgeon to have a look at his finger, and turn it back into a finger!!! his arm will be fine in 6 weeks..
he sounded surprisingly happy and is stinging to get his bike fixed and back on the track!!! he doesnt remember anything from before the crash happened, until sometime in the chopper so has no idea what happened in between!!
he was having a look in his gloves today, and thought he was digging some dirt out of them, ended up being a peice of bone that he dug out of his glove. so he has a strange souvenier from that crash!!!!

VINNIE

Good to hear Sin came away relatively OK from that crash.....it looked and sounded very bad at first. Give him my best regards towards a speedy recovery.

I'm in Thailand now heading for some more track fun at Bira.

I'll never forget my stay at PI and meeting up with you guys was truly a great experience :) .........you are a great bunch of people, you live in the best country in the world and I will bee back ASAP. Promise :mod_smilie_rockwoot

The school was great for me and I learned alot from it.
Did a ride day on monday which was a real blast now that I knew the track and all, and it was alot better organized than the Afterburner day which was rather caotic IMO.

Have to go, but will post up a full report when I return to Korea.

PS! Mick, your photos were just awesome :ayyy: :ayyy: :ayyy:
