Got my bargain 6110 nav off ebay, Bought the cheaper of the good gps units from the US. Set it up, Worked a treat. Yesterday I opened my usual $9 optus billto find an extra $900 or so. Nice guys only want half price same as my call costs from staying loyal. Fucking Arsewipes. Can't pay on principal. Don't know what will happen now. Be aware people and avoid the big 2 if you don't want to get ripped

I don't understand why you got a bill. Its only bluetooth.

did you download some gps maps or something for the phone? or it used some other data?
There is no reason why using the gps it self will cost money.

My point exactly... I've used racechrono on a phone with no SIM card before! How the hell did he get a bill for that?? Or why????

My mistake was pressing buttons before thinking. Never having bluetooth or net phone before, I couldn't get prog from laptop to phone but phone downloaded itself easy. At 1st I thought I was using my home wireless conection.I was wrong

$900 !!! You know there just has to be an opposite to their "acceptable use" policy... something like "acceptable bill" policy.
Seriously, why should they be allowed to bill you 10000% more than your usual bill, isn't there some sort of protection? Call the industry ombudsman, let us know.

Ive heard horror stories of data bills of $8000 for a month for some who bought the Iphone ... Its scary what you can download and a horrendous $$/kb rate (especially if you do not have an agreed dataplan and so pay heavy straight away).
Hard lesson to learn, but its in the document you signed and didnt read.

Shit news mate, but glad you got it sorted before the bill got any larger..
Optus has terrible data rates if you are not on a plan. Take a guess how I know...

6110 off ebay, hmmm mine was stolen 2 weeks ago. That phone you can either use the system for the navigator which logs on quicker or use the other method of just waiting to log on to sats and then use it for free. I was with these guys for pay as you go. They were cheap as i didn't call much.

I'm still confused......how the hell did RC cost that much to either download or run? I'm on a $49 Cap with net access and download new versions of RC, tracks and use it frequently and I've never had issues let alone heard anyone else having issues........
Must not be racechrono but something else..

Sounds like it's got nothing to do with RC, j-rad; he inadvertently connected to the net .... and remained connected for a few days. Still, that's one hell of a bill.
I reckon the phone manufacturers and the phone companies are in kahootz; the STOP button is often the same as the INTERNET button, so that if you press STOP after a call, but the call has already been terminated by the other party then you will connect to the net ... and charged accordingly.
This is the second phone i've had with the same thing (Ericsson and Nokia).

Yeh figured as much but sorta said it maybe as a hint to edit the title so others don't think that RC is the issue. . . but meh I'm sure those concerned will read all posts :ayyy:

Sorry,Not a RC issue at all.Not being a tech head I dont know how to edit title. I thought I was using my conection and had no idea of price. I first followed prompt and downloaded anti virus type of thing then got rc. Then sent phone in for warranty to put street maps on. Then re downloaded rc. All up it was a big download. If ombudsman gives negative reply will cop the bill to keep my cheap call plan no longer avalable

I got a $350 bill once for internets on phone....I used about 35 mb...never again.
I ended up getting my $350 back by going into one of their shops and spilling my coke over one of their fancy laptops they use to show you the new phones..so indirectly they still didn't make the $350, such was my rage :)

Ya can move the buttons around on today's phones, through phone settings or a similar menu, that way you can leave the hang up button to be just the hang up button.
I am on a 79 cap with optus, which includes 700 mb worth of data. For the first month I had my iphone, I gave the 3g internet connection a belting, just to see what sort of dent I would put in my 700 mb limit if I only used 3g and no wireless. After a months worth of browsing, you tubing, app downloading, etc, I only used 200mb. These days there is pretty much a wireless network wherever I am and so I use that, but still couldn't make a dent in the 700 mb limit.
