Comments and expierences with both ?
Ive only had a ventura rack, and that rocked for storing crap on weekend/overnight trips....
But kinda bulky and looks kinda dodge.
Never had a tank bag but mates have them.... look ok i guess....
any comments?
Heard the rack can be dangerous if your bike goes over the top and it hits your back (slim chances though!)
Tank bags are great, but restrictive at times, depending on how full they are.
I have a magnetic one you can borrow for a while to try out, if you like.

i have a tank bag that i use occasionally, but cant fill it or i cant reach the clip ons!!!:(
i just bought a ventura rack for my tl. was a pain in the ass to fit cause i have an undertail. and the bag was broken so im waiting on my new one to come. but it will hold heaps, and keeps my passenger from sliding off the back of the bike!!

i use a tank bag everyday, dont like the look of ventura rack and bags, although they do come in handy....had one on my GSXR600, back in the day
My two cents worth:
I ride a sportsbike with clip-on handle bars. I love using my magnetic tankbag. Its comfy leaning on it, especially on long boring freeway stretches and I don't even bother to tie it.
The ventura top rack worries me. If I get hit, I'd prefer to not to get dragged along with the bike...
However, I have been known to reply to: 'Why don't you get some of those nice suitcases for the sides'...'have you ever seen a ferrari dragging a campervan around?'
It just looks awkward to me.

I think I've tried most options:
1. Ventura Rack - really handy and no hassle but looks kinda crap.
2. Magnetic Tank Bag - tidy & neat and great to lean on for long straight highways but found it restrictive for sports riding (on a gsx-r1000 k6); couldn't lean over it properly. Also slight scratching on tank (very minor).
3. Tail Bag (goes ontop of pillion seat) - found this looks neat & tidy and no hassle. Not much space but no hassle and clips on/off easily
Overall, tourer bike I would probably go ventura rack for best storage and I guess it's common on these sorta bikes.
Best tidyness - tank bag but a pain in really leaning over tank and riding hard.
My favourite for sport bike is the tail bag. Looks not quite as neat as a tank bag but it's no hassle and still looks reasonably tidy.
All depends on how much to carry.

Yeh, i had a vent on my old cbr250rr, it was awsome..... Looks kinda crap, but i just took the rack off when it wasnt beening used and left the brackets there, that looked fine....
Tank bag, im just worried about tank scratching.......
The tail bag hmmmmm, i got a rear cowl and on the k5's it comes to a point, will this effect it? or only for use with a pillion seat on??? (i got one aswell)

have a Ventura rack on my blade all the time. If the actual luggage rack is taken off I put the small sports handle on instead. Also have a Bagster tankbag & cover. Great for touring around though it can get a little in the way when you are doing a speed that is above the one signposted & are trying to get down out of the wind.
The guys that have followed me reckon its a funny sight when we come up to some twisties as I assume the racing body position & disappear out of sight behind the ventura rack.....:mod_smilie_rockwoot

Yep, I would only recommend using a tail bag on top of the pillion seat.

I sit my ventura rack on backwards most of the time (if I have to ride with it at all) as I find this helps a little with how the wind flows over me when riding in the racing position and also helps with crosswind effect when it gets windy (perhaps its all in my head but Im going with it! haha)
My proper ventura bag got a big hole in it, so I just grabbed a standard surf backpack, undid both of the straps and wrapped them round and round and tieing it all off to be permanent - its just as secure as the proper bag was, but unfortunatly you cant just unclip the bag from the rack anymore (I just spend 20seconds undoing those thumbscrews and take the lot)
Whenever I go on a bike rally its great to be able to mount the rack and have a bag on one side with all the piss in it, and your tent and sleeping bag okky strapped on the other side :) So I guess my votes with a rack (as long as you can put up with your mates saying "you should remove ur rack your bike will look better" all the time lols - they dont tend to say this at bike rallys tho :) )
Edit, damn took me ages to write that and u've already got one hahahha -
