Just got off the phone to Shannons for a quote for my R1. The guy on the phone politely told me that if I ride my bike more than once a week their insurance isnt for me. Im a motorcycle rider - not a poser that puts his bike in the lounge room (i put it out the front of coffee shops instead). WTF:cursing: Any ideas fellas?

Yep, give Shannons the flick. I hate insurers that try to pick the safest customers, should be illegal. Otherwise how do we spread the risk?

(Did you know, for instance, that charging more to younger drivers is age descrimination, yet the insurers managed to get an exception for it? Fucking rigged, that's exactly what the discrimination laws are designed to prevent).

Yeah these pricks arent Insurers just pretenders. Fuck them. Atleast QBE always wanna play ball - always wanna negotiate, not always the best quote but ready to play. The wanker on the Shannons ad with the Ducati needs his Jaw broken so that way he can eat through a straw by feel instead of shifting by feel(no offence to Ducati owners)

That's weird mate, my R1 is insured with Shannons with no issue. Thing with Shannons is, the person on the phone has the power to either choose to insure you are decline your insurance, it might be worth calling back and seeing if you get someone else.

Yeah i had bad dealings with Shannon for a few reasons...they are far from helping riding enthusiasts.

Get a online quote from insure my ride then take it to QBE to price match, Insure my ride seem ok except for the fine print. There was a post on here about it regarding your bike even with full Comp is not covered if stolen from anywhere outside your locked garage or house.

why bother calling them again, I called them and was given the same answer. They've lost my business.

OK, well don't call them again and call someone else. Problem solved.

QBE do multiple policies, 0200k, 0-4000, 0-8000 and unlimited k, two years on the blade cost me 1100 for 0-8000k per year and Im possibly a lil younger than yourself -Give them a whirl:confused1:

I would have thought your dealer would have neg a deal for you ? Sydney city Cycles Lancove have a guy that does there insurance , possibly drop them a line??

yeah that'll be cheap. LOL I use Allianz for most of my stuff, they are always pretty cheap straight up, no taking other peoples shit to them etc. Maybe try them. You should be able to look up a price compairson thing on the net, (google it), OR just go to few websites and get online quotes to compare. It ain't hard, done it heaps.

Shannons are a joke, they pretend they are for the enthusiasts, but they wont insure you if you are enthusiastic about your ride

:ayyy:check out Qbe for shore and ring "Insure my ride" but I'm shore a few guys on rats have said in the past that you really have to read the small print and what they actually cover from IMR and i think there a part of shannons any how. I am insured with qbe for about $650 for 12 months and that is a 03 R1 $12500 full comp.

I have had the similar comments from shannons as ruprecht had to him , they also advertise to insure your daily drive but there full of shit.

Thanks guys, I appreciate your help Allianz gave me a quote thats 25 bucks cheaper by the month and QBE are trying to match it as we speak as they already have my old policy - no change over bullshit with DDR details. Still though was having evil thoughts about the 2008 zx10 for sale on RATS:dohsmiley:

They were beyond a joke for me. Non fault accident with a HWP cop as a witness, took 4 months to resolve while they tried to cut corners and bullshitted me (But that's a story for another day). Maybe I've not got your charm mate.

They all are to some degree because the fact is none of them want to pay you squat if there is any chance of getting out of it. There a necessary evil but the insurance industry are all gutter dwelling scum.

I have very good experience with Insure My Ride, I had a brand new bike in 3 weeks. Claimed a bit of money for crack in my mobile etc... I had a new helmet from MCAS next day so I could ride my mates bike (thanks Mr Ed). The only problem is they cover the mods only up to $2000. But cover for gear and other personal items is pretty good.

Although Shannons advertise " insurance for the motoring enthustiasts". They really cater for the rider/driver that uses their vehicle for weekend use and not everyday use.

Insurance like a lot of things is a personal choice and you need to find one that is suited to your requirements.

I find that insurance companies are very eager to get new business but do not apply the same vigour to existing customers.

Good luck

it seems this is a shannon's bashing thread. i had 4 bikes insured with them ( i say had 4 because i wrote off my gixxer ) never had any hassles they paid me out for the bike inside a month and my gear about 5 weeks no questions asked & i'll say they the dude who took care of my case couldn't have done a better job of getting it sorted for me. they even cover my track bike up until i take it of the trailer at the track, that is for theft fire stolen or damaged in transport. the other thing to remember here is they were also the first to cover riding gear none of the others bothered until shannon's come along & took some of their business. i for one will stick with SHANNON'S as i personally have had nothing but a good relationship with them :ayyy:

yes they can.......... I insured a car the other day never had insurance with them before but coz I hadn't made any claims with anyone else, I got a 60% NCB. It's all about their RISK, not if you have been with them before.

Yep, they will always honor your NCB provided you have had x number of years continuous insurance with someone else. It's the new insurers who haven't had insurance with any company that can't get a NCB discount

other than this line in their PDS I can't see InsureMyRide denying theft claims outside your own garage.

"You must take all reasonable steps to safeguard your bike, riding gear and personal valuables from damage or theft."

My reasonable step is to NOT keep my bike in my own garage.
its a unit complex common 'security' garage that's previously had 5+ bikes stolen and vandalised.
I've had one stolen and one attempted. Nutter can support me on this one as two of those stolen were his.

Does anyone have a link to these dodgy exclusions?

Try ebike have been with them for a year now, been heaps cheaper, had someone run into my bike they paid out no issues although i did get the guys name that ran into me so that might have helped.

I thought someone said there was a major problem with the cover provided by ebike ... not an issue if it wasn't your fault I guess. Anyhow I think it was ebike, don't want to give anyone a bumsteer :confused1:

A quick search found this: http://nswroadandtrackbikes.com/forums/showthread.php?t=8319&highlight=ebike not really a huge problem, there might have been others, not sure.

LOL, should've mentioned sorry > when I was on my L's it was legal to buy ANY bike you wanted :D SCHAWWEEET

I got in about 12 months before the laws changed to the current situ which still still better than NSW > 150kw/tonne, opens up bike choice!

My bike got stolen so under the new laws I would've had to have bought something and couldn't even buy a similar bike to what I owned! Since I'd ridden dirt bikes bigger than that for some time on the farm, hence the larger bike straight up, then be blowed if I was going to buy a 250 or something!

Thankfully Police retrieved my bike, lying on its side on the footpath in another suburb. they'd used a crowbar to get the disc lock off, had jammed the bar into the tank to open it for fuel...it was a right mess.....cost to repair was $8300 thanks to ACTION replacing stuff it didn't need to write something off I didn't want written off cause then I'm back to a smaller bike! Anyhow, bike was fairly new so still worth enough to JUST be able the 2/3rd rule so got all new fairings, tank, lights, blah blah......

well not exactly, I filled out that my previous car wasn't insured, and that i had no at fault accidents in the last 5 years or whatever, and bingo...........so to them, I was newly insured and I still got the bonus.
