Hey guys, I'm lingering around the 1:55 mark

I think I'm supposed to be in Medium Slow however last two times I've been in it I feel I'm in the fastest 2 - 4 riders.

I heard medium fast should be doing under 1:50 as a rule of thumb, do you think it'll be ok for me to jump into Medium Fast? I really want to get quicker and I think chasing the faster guys will help me rapidly improve.

I'll pay tomorrow *Thumbs up*

It really does depend on the day. I had a mate doing 1:47's on his 1000RR and he was one of the quickest in A Grade...

I'd suggest booking in to B1 and then going to B2 on the day if you find the session too tough, though I'm sure you won't! Easier to convince officials you want to go down a group than up a group on the day!

Good Point:ayyy: And for that matter, how often on a track day do we check anything? (Note to dr nick:) and johnb:hatter: )

Zee
06-05-2007, 11:31 AM
In preparation for every track day.
Having worked on street bikes, things come loose all the time and sometimes it's surprising at actually what does.
Although, a axle nut is one thing that hasn't crossed my path (coming loose) not saying it can't happen, just extremely rare.
I'd first look at the procedure in fitment, I think we overlook that.
And a tip. Never put a bolt or a nut on loose without tightening immediately. Once distracted you may not return to the same point at which you left. Also get into the habit of checking every fastener you replaced after assembly.
Don't assume it's done, check it, it only takes a minute.

MATTK6
06-05-2007, 11:36 AM
my sentiments exactly, and mono, your right there, that's normally when i use to check mine, but from now on, i wont have to worry about the nut coming loose cause i'm gonna wire lock the bloddy thing on there:lmao:

Yep, I do. Every trackday.

Engine mounts, sub frame, axles, callipers. ect.

Got the torque settings written on my tool box.

Overkill? Perhaps, but Ive had bolts rattle off 2 different Gixxers I have owned after long road rides.
For it to happen more than once to me was enough for me to decide to check em.

Bigdog
14-05-2007, 11:49 AM
On some days there are racers there that are in the 1:30's, but there are usually a few guys that are in the low 1:50's too. You have to be able to hold a line as some of the fella's come up on you pretty quick sometimes and can pass pretty close.

We will PM these guys tomorrow night with the outcome and we will also post it up.

However, we may be able to sneak a couple more into A grade.

Still none the wiser guys.
Trouble is........Leonie, the lady we have been doing the bookings with in Melbourne has taken a few days off. She is usually on the ball.........In fact she usually amazes me with her organizing skills But this booking has been unusually difficult.
I spoke with Steve Brouggy today and he assures me everything will be OK.
He tells me she will be in tomorrow.
They have all the on all the riders info ( and money) but I`m still wating on confirmation of the booking of............
Jmuzz
Timmy

Sorry for the drama you 3 guys but there is not much more I can say at this stage.

Apparently the young lady that came off T1 was not in good shape. Blue NSR track bike

Compound fracture on her right arm, along with fractured shouler, plus bruising. Second hand info mind you.

I only got 1 session in, ran out of talent exiting turn 3 first lap of session 2. Ended up in the gravel, destroyed right and top fairing along with my helmet.

Hopefully back together by 11th

Yep several RATS members had days they would rather forget.

The lady on the Blue NSR250 is Rachael aka Joyrider. Her crash wasn't related to the oil spill as that was on the straight & stopped before T1 where the rider pulled over next the pit wall. As mentioned Broken arm, broken colarbone & suffering from shock.

Not sure of the owner (Jordan maybe??) but there was a GSXR???? with a blue/white tank & orange track fairings going home early from the garage. Jay on the Red/white/green RGV250 seized a motor but luckily didnt crash. Chad on his CBR600 also had an excursion though I'm sure once the 24Hr time period is up we will here about it.

Theer were some strange incidents today with a bike blowing a motor coming onto the straight, a MV Agusta Senna also blowing a motor though somewhere else on the track, 5 RATS guys trying to change one tyre, so even though not a lot of riding it was all still happening.

I'm sure as people get home & recover from such a stressful day full accounts of the days activities will be posted.

Thanks to the RATS organisers for another top notch day, great fun again.:ninja: :ninja: :ninja: :ninja: :ninja:

Apart from the spills, the day was good.I ended the first session by coming around turn 12 with the back end slidding all over the place.Pulled in to the pits and put the rear stand on,to find i have a rear puncher:cursing: .So i took the bike down to the tyre garage and their compresser has shit it self :confused1: .Long story short,it took about an hour and a half to fix and i did not miss a session because of the two incedents(oil spill in A group and Joyrider coming off on turn 1.).Most of all i would not have been able to make it back on the track if it was not for our Illawarra/RATs brothers.

yip was a weird day..

1st session for me ended 3 laps in.. got my 1st trailer ride back to the pits

it was just a bike gremlin.. just added a litre of oil and it went again..

so back out to session 2 ...mind you this was like 12.30 though with a few incidents mentioned above

then session 3 was when things went really pear shaped..

turn 4.. starting to get into a groove and was stepping things up...

so ive low sided at T4 at good speed.. i slid on tarmac hit the grass started rolling/tumbling back onto tarmac(now shitting myself thinkin that i was back on the track), kept silding back onto grass and done a few more tumbles..picked my self up winded checked my self out nothing major.. got my breathe etc.. so went and tryed to pick up bike.. got bout half way down then the rib pain really hit.. there was no way i could even get down low enough to pick it up..

the pick up crew arrive and the first thing they said was you slid along way..overall IMO i slid 30+ metres, with others saying you went much further then that:eyecrazy:

quick trip to medical centre their predictions cracked rib, bruising and friction burn on arm..so sore but could of been much worse:ayyy:

i think i have either got on the gas too hard/early(most likely) or my poor body positionin has caused me to dig my brake lever and lock up rear.. either way im happy ive walked away..

heres a photo of my brake lever and what i did to it in the session before crash.. obviously it was still attached to the bike at the time..

http://i63.photobucket.com/albums/h144/_chado77/DSC01160.jpg

and heres my Tacho.. is this is correct i went down doin at least 11500rpm in third which by estimation is bout 150-60k's

It was an eventful but mostly fun trackday yesterday. As always the company was excellent and some of the members were riding really well.
Unfortunately there were a few crashes that have already been discussed and I wish all of them and their bikes a speedy recovery and hope they will be able to join us again soon.
I had an excellent day and Falco finally got the monkey off his back and is starting to get used to his R6.
As Vinnie said it was nice to see some of our members turn out to watch and offer their moral support. It was nice putting some faces to the names on the site after meeting and talking to people throughout the day and I look forward to doing this again at EC on the 17th June. See ya's there.

Thanks everyone for your well wishes. I am really sorry that you had to wait an hour plus for me to be taken off to hospital.

I came off on turn 1 yesterday. Not sure what happened. I was cruising along and all of a sudden my bike "stopped" with no warning, I was flung over the handle bars and before I knew it my right shoulder smashed into the track Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhh! I think my bike seized or something like that. :cursing::confused1:

I haven't seen the bike but I have heard that it isn't pretty.

My right collar bone is broken and I have heavy bruising on my right arm and upper leg. I feel very lucky that that was the extent of my injuries.

I was given morphine which has made me feel very drowsy and sick although it took away the pain for a while.:eyecrazy:

I am pretty nervous and shocked. I don’t think I will be riding for a while as it will take a few months for my bone to heal. I would absolutely love to do a track day again if I can overcome my fear because they are awesome:mod_smilie_rockwoot .

Wishing all the best in your recovery. Speaking from experience (I busted my left collarbone at OP last month) it is a shitter but once you get the first week out of the way, you will feel better everyday. It's great that you posted and let everyone know that you are ok.

Bet you are re-living your accident over & over in your head trying to figure what went wrong. Just get well and hope you are back on your bike as soon as possible.

Chado,
Hope you are ok. Mate, to have come off at that speed, you are very lucky that your injuries aren't worst.

What's the damage to the bike? Is it now officially a track track?

Wishing you a speedy recovery.

Cheers

Nice to see all the regulars out there on Saturday
Congrats to all who set PB's again, you guys are getting quicker and quicker with every ride day. Soon A group will be booking out first. :ayyy:
Commiserations to the crashers, hope youz all quickly mend well, both body 'n' bikes. Unfortunately this is a part of our sport and no one likes to crash but some days it's all worth it, when it all falls in place, it's exhilarating (riding not crashing). There will always be more of the good, than the bad times. :)

Just checking in. I think i had the record of the highest ride day fee per lap. My day ended at turn 11 after my out lap. fair slide which woulda been alright until the bike flipped and smashed in the tank and front fairing stay etc. Had to wait by the side of the track and ride it into the pits with no front brakes at the end of the session.

To get back on track i will be chasing right hand rearset bracket front fairing stay and other bits and pieces. But to get back on road it will extend to at least a new tank if my subframe is alright. So far i haven't stripped it off yet so full assessment hasn't been done.

My (no longer) new beautiful dainese leathers and bap meant i got away undamaged but i scored a lot of wear and a nice hole in my jacket for the (acceptable) price. Once again i have managed to have a decent sized stack and still not even glance the ground with my helmet.

Sucks to crash before you even start to push!

Someone went out earlier than yourself Jordan.

White (C) Group, out of the pits, binned a SBS bike entering turn 2

glad ya ok jordan.....dont think i can help ya with rearset bits. but keep an eye on ebay cause there has been cheap after market rearsets coming up from time to time. just shitty second hand ones, but for 100 bux or so they will do the job and move ya feet position higher to:D

Sorry to hear about the stack!

Turtle paid more! He was at Circuitbreakers (more costly) AND lost it on turn 9! :ayyy: (though he did have insurance, so you may hold that record yet!)

Glad to hear you are OK.

Bikes can be repaired, but we can take a lot longer.
